[Termes IGN] température de l'airRésumé : (auteur) There are on average 35 fatal mountaineering accidents per summer in France. On average, since 1990, 3.7 of them have occurred every summer in the Grand Couloir du Goûter, on the classic route up Mont Blanc (4809 m a.s.l.). Rockfall is one of the main factors that explain this high accident rate and contribute to making it one of the most accident-prone areas in the Alps for mountaineers. In this particular context, the objective of this study is to document the rockfall activity and its triggering factors in the Grand Couloir du Goûter in order to disseminate the results to mountaineers and favour their adaptation to the local rockfall hazard. Using a multi-method monitoring system (five seismic sensors, an automatic digital camera, three rock subsurface temperature sensors, a traffic sensor, a high-resolution topographical survey, two weather stations and a rain gauge), we acquired a continuous database on rockfalls during a period of 68 d in 2019 and some of their potential triggering factors (precipitation, ground and air temperatures, snow cover, frequentation by climbers). At the seasonal scale, our results confirm previous studies showing that rockfalls are most frequent during the snowmelt period in permafrost-affected rockwalls. Furthermore, the unprecedented time precision and completeness of our rockfall database at high elevation thanks to seismic sensors allowed us to investigate the factors triggering rockfalls. We found a clear correlation between rockfall frequency and air temperature, with a 2 h delay between peak air temperature and peak rockfall activity. A small number of rockfalls seem to be triggered by mountaineers. Our data set shows that climbers are not aware of the variations in rockfall frequency and/or cannot/will not adapt their behaviour to this hazard. These results should help to define an adaptation strategy for climbers. Therefore, we disseminated our results within the mountaineering community thanks to the full integration of our results into the management of the route by local actors. Knowledge built during this experiment has already been used for the definition and implementation of management measures for the attendance in summer 2020. We sense, measure, and process data and act accordingly all the time. In fact, real-time monitoring and information is key to a successful business, an assistant in life-saving decisions that healthcare professionals make, and a tool in research that could revolutionize the future. To ensure that sensors address the rapidly developing needs of various areas of our lives and activities, scientists, researchers, manufacturers, and end-users have established an efficient dialogue so that the newest technological achievements in all aspects of real-time sensing can be implemented for the benefit of the wider community. [Termes IGN] voxelIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Incorporating 3D understanding and spatial reasoning into (intelligent) algorithms is crucial for solving several tasks in fields such as engineering geodesy, risk assessment, and autonomous driving. Humans are capable of reasoning about 3D spatial relations even from a single 2D image. However, making the priors that we rely on explicit and integrating them into computer programs is very challenging. Operating directly on 3D input data, such as 3D point clouds, alleviates the need to lift 2D data into a 3D representation within the task-specific algorithm and hence reduces the complexity of the problem. The 3D point clouds are not only a better-suited input data representation, but they are also becoming increasingly easier to acquire. Indeed, nowadays, LiDAR sensors are even integrated into consumer devices such as mobile phones. However, these sensors often have a limited field of view, and hence multiple acquisitions are required to cover the whole area of interest. Between these acquisitions, the sensor has to be moved and pointed in a different direction. Moreover, the world that surrounds us is also dynamic and might change as well. Reasoning about the motion of both the sensor and the environment, based on point clouds acquired in two-time steps, is therfore an integral part of point cloud processing. This thesis focuses on incorporating rigidity priors into novel deep learning based approaches for dynamic 3D perception from point cloud data. Specifically, the tasks of point cloud registration, deformation analysis, and scene flow estimation are studied. At first, these tasks are incorporated into a common framework where the main difference is in the level of rigidity assumptions that are imposed on the motion of the scene or
the acquisition sensor. Then, the tasks specific priors are proposed and incorporated into novel deep learning architectures. While the global rigidity can be assumed in point cloud registration, the motion patterns in deformation analysis and scene flow estimation are more complex. Therefore, the global rigidity prior has to be relaxed to local or instancelevel rigidity, respectively. Rigidity priors not only add structure to the aforementioned tasks, which prevents physically implausible estimates and improves the generalization of the algorithms, but in some cases also reduce the supervision requirements. The proposed approaches were quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated on several datasets, and they yield favorable performance compared to the state-of-the-art.Numéro de notice : 28660 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Thèse étrangère Note de thèse : PhD : Sciences : ETH Zurich : 2021 DOI : sans En ligne : https://www.research-collection.ethz.ch/handle/20.500.11850/523368 Format de la ressource électronique : URL Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=99817 Decentralized detection and monitoring of convoy patterns / Jeremy Yeoman in International journal of geographical information science IJGIS, vol 30 n° 5-6 (May - June 2016)

A series of decentralized algorithms are presented and discussed (naïve, tree-based, and further devolved reactive approaches) for mobile geosensor nodes to share the necessary information to enable in-network detection and monitoring of convoys; these approaches require neither centralized control nor quantitative positioning. Empirical evaluation of algorithm characteristics and performance (via simulation experiments with synthetic and real movement data) demonstrate algorithm efficiency and effectiveness (with various strategies to structure information flow and devolve decision-making considerably improving communication efficiency).
