[Termes IGN] tomographieRésumé : (Auteur) The growing interest in 3-D reconstruction of targets, particularly man-made objects, has made synthetic aperture radar (SAR) tomography a hot topic in recent years. It obtains a 3-D reflectivity map by coherently processing multiple images acquired from slightly different views. This paper investigates the use of polarimetric tomographic SAR to reconstruct 3-D images of man-made objects and proposes a polarimetric 3-D reconstruction technique, based on the multiple-measurement vector compressive sensing (CS) (MMV-CS) model and Tikhonov regularization theory. The main feature of the technique is that of allowing joint reconstruction of polarimetric 3-D reflectivity maps with high resolution. For X-band tomographic SAR, we demonstrate that the phase error induced by an array element error is severe enough to prevent data focusing and propose a phase calibration technique employing prominent scatterers to adapt the proposed technique to practice. To check the plausibility of our algorithms, a ground-based SAR system is introduced, and high-resolution 3-D images obtained by processing the real collected data are presented. As special cases of the new proposed technique, both the Tikhonov regularization and the MMV-CS method reconstruct the targets successfully and give an accurate estimate for the vehicle size. Compared to the Tikhonov regularization method, the MMV-CS technique exhibits much better superresolution power and lower sidelobe level. The advantage of the MMV-CS technique over the single-measurement vector CS technique is also demonstrated, and the phase calibration algorithm is verified. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (Auteur) Inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) is a coherent high-resolution radar technique capable of providing range-Doppler images of non-cooperative targets. Conventional ISAR systems just consider a single reflection of transmitted waveforms from targets. Nevertheless, today's new applications force ISAR systems to work in much more complex scenarios such as urban environments. Consequently, multiple-bounce returns are additionally superposed to direct-scatter echoes. We refer to these as ghost images, since they obscure true target image and lead to poor visual quality, making target detection particularly difficult. By applying time reversal concept to ISAR imaging, it is possible to reduce considerably (or even mitigate) ghosting artifacts, recovering the lost quality due to multipath effects. Nevertheless, before applying this innovative technique, it is essential to estimate the distance between radar and target for each transmitted ramp and for each target scatterer. To that end, a pre-processing algorithm based on detecting the prominent points of a conventional ISAR image corrupted by multipath, followed by a windowing process, is used. Both simulated and real data are used to verify the proposed method. In the past six years, the SETHI instrument, hosted on board a Falcon 20 aircraft, has been developed with a main focus on science applications. In this paper, the philosophy of this development is highlighted together with a detailed description of the instruments. The SETHI instrument includes three SAR systems at P, L and X bands, one context camera in the visible domain, with a side looking geometry matching the radar field of view, and a hyperspectral camera with standard nadir geometry. The paper then summarises the latest SETHI campaigns in the context of two spaceborne mission preparations. The first is the ESA BIOMASS mission with a P-Band SAR instrument for global forest biomass mapping. The second one is a maritime surveillance mission, including an X-band SAR system. For each campaign, the main objectives are listed, the references to the dedicated papers are provided and the major results are highlighted. Finally the paper then provides a preview for the future developments around the SETHI system, for studies dedicated to the optical/radar data fusion. [Termes IGN] radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Bistatic inverse synthetic aperture radar (BiISAR) imaging provides complementary information to monostatic ISAR imaging. A suggestion that the conventional bistatic ISAR can be replaced by an equivalent monostatic radar is shown to be inadequate in this paper. We prove that the BiISAR image is a sheared version of the projection of the target on the range-Doppler plane. A bistatic interferometric radar configuration is proposed to correct this distortion and to form 3-D image. Simulation results have validated our analysis and shown the viability of the proposed 3-D imaging algorithm.
