[Termes IGN] regroupement de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a three-dimensional (3-D) interferometric synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging method for moving targets is presented. This imaging method is based on the ISAR principle and the simple observation that all scatterers on a moving target move in tandem. The angular motion parameters in the cross-range directions could be estimated using the overall range profile of the moving target. Registration of the respective complex images at the two (or more) interferometric antennas can then be achieved via compensating the respective echoes at the raw data level, thus avoiding phase-unwrapping processing and image-resampling processing as required by conventional methods. Finally, a 3-D image of the moving target can then be reconstructed from the 3-D spatial coordinates of these scatterers. Furthermore, the method works well even for a target moving in heavily cluttered environments. Now, four years later, we are getting ready for the next (20th) Congress which is being held in Istanbul, Turkey between 13th and 23rd July, 2004. The last four years have simply flown by, with lots of innovation and development, especially in the imaging field. Without doubt, much of the focus in the technical exhibition will be on these imagers, while, in the lecture sessions, we can expect to hear how they are being applied to a wide range of projects in the mapping, field and environmental sciences. [Termes IGN] radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A comparison of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images acquired by the ERS-2 and RADARSAT-1 satellites with Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images acquired close in time is presented. Similarities and differences on the kind of ocean information they provide are discussed. The images were acquired over the Brazil-Malvinas (Falkland) Confluence under different solar elevation and azimuth angles. Ocean features observed by both types of sensors are discussed. These observations show that (1) at high solar angles, sun glint prevails over upwelled water-leaving radiance resulting in optical images that tend to provide dynamical information similar to that obtained from SAR imagery and (2) at low solar zenith and azimuth angles, upwelled radiation tends to prevail over sun glint, providing typical ocean colour and water quality information that can still complement and aid in the interpretation of SAR observations. [Termes IGN] radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper we introduce the g-WMAP filter. a wa~elet based equivalent to the classical g-MAP filter. We model speckle as additive signaldependent noise, and propose to use the normal inverse Gaussian (NIG) distribution as a statistical model for the wavelet coefficients of both the reflectance image and the noise image. A method for estimating the parameters of the proposed statistical models is presented, and we show that the NIG distribution makes excellent fits to the distributions of the wavelet coefficients of single-look synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The performance of the g-WMAP filter is tested on three single-look SAR images. We find that when the filter is used in a global mode it may severely blur the image. However, when applied in a local, adaptive mode the new algorithm has excellent de-speckling performance. Visual comparisons with the g-MAP filter show that g-WMAP tends to give better de-speckling. Quantitative comparisons in homogeneous regions using both the equivalent number of looks and the log standard deviation as measures definitely show that the g-WMAP gives better speckle filtering. In the light of recent expansion of the technique to a wide range of applications, the need for an up-to-date reference has become urgent. This fully revised and expanded edition of the best-selling Surface-Penetrating Radar (IEE, 1996) presents, for the non-specialist user or engineer, all the key elements of this technique, which span several disciplines including electromagnetics, geophysics and signal processing. The book will help users to assess the potential of the technique and currently available technology and to apply them effectively.
