[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) With the current expansion of cities, urban trees have an important role for preserving the health of its inhabitants. With their evapotranspiration, they reduce the urban heat island phenomenon, by trapping CO2 emission, improve air quality. In particular, street trees or alignment trees, create shade on the road network, are structuring elements of the cities and decorate the roads. Street trees are also subject to specific conditions as they have little space for growth, are pruned and can be affected by the spread of diseases in single-species plantations. Thus, their detection, identification and monitoring are necessary. In this study, an approach is proposed for mapping these trees that are characteristic of the urban environment. Three areas of the city of Toulouse in the south of France are studied. Airborne hyperspectral data and a Digital Surface Model (DSM) for high vegetation detection are used. Then, contextual information is used to identify the street trees. Indeed, Geographic Information System (GIS) data are considered to detect the vegetation canopies close to the streets. Afterwards, individual street tree crown delineation is carried out by modeling the discriminative contextual features of individual street trees (hypotheses of small angle between the trees and similar heights) based on Marked Point Process (MPP). Compared to a baseline individual tree crown delineation method based on region growing, our method logically provides the best results with F-score values of 91%, 75% and 85% against 70%, 41% and 20% for the three studied areas respectively. Our approach mainly succeeds in identifying the street trees. In addition, the contribution of the angle, the height and the GIS data in the street tree mapping has been studied. The results encourage the use of the angle, the height and the GIS data together. However, with only the angle and the height, the results are similar to those obtained with the inclusion of the GIS data for the first and the second study cases with F-score values of 88%, 79% and 62% against 91%, 75% and 85% for the three study cases respectively. Finally, it is shown that the GIS data only is not sufficient. [Termes IGN] réseau neuronal convolutifRésumé : (Auteur) Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have been widely used for the analysis of remotely sensed imagery. In particular, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are gaining more and more attention in this field. CNNs have proved to be very effective in areas such as image recognition and classification, especially for the classification of large sets composed by two-dimensional images. However, their application to multispectral and hyperspectral images faces some challenges, especially related to the processing of the high-dimensional information contained in multidimensional data cubes. This results in a significant increase in computation time. In this paper, we present a new CNN architecture for the classification of hyperspectral images. The proposed CNN is a 3-D network that uses both spectral and spatial information. It also implements a border mirroring strategy to effectively process border areas in the image, and has been efficiently implemented using graphics processing units (GPUs). Our experimental results indicate that the proposed network performs accurately and efficiently, achieving a reduction of the computation time and increasing the accuracy in the classification of hyperspectral images when compared to other traditional ANN techniques. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Recently, a variety of approaches have been enriching the field of remote sensing (RS) image processing and analysis. Unfortunately, existing methods remain limited to the rich spatiospectral content of today's large data sets. It would seem intriguing to resort to deep learning (DL)-based approaches at this stage with regard to their ability to offer accurate semantic interpretation of the data. However, the specificity introduced by the coexistence of spectral and spatial content in the RS data sets widens the scope of the challenges presented to adapt DL methods to these contexts. Therefore, the aim of this paper is first to explore the performance of DL architectures for the RS hyperspectral data set classification and second to introduce a new 3-D DL approach that enables a joint spectral and spatial information process. A set of 3-D schemes is proposed and evaluated. Experimental results based on well-known hyperspectral data sets demonstrate that the proposed method is able to achieve a better classification rate than state-of-the-art methods with lower computational costs. [Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) Phenological events of tree leaves from initiation to senescence is generally influenced by temperature and water availability. Detection of newly grown leaves (NGL) is useful in the diagnosis of growth of trees, tree stress and even climatic change. Utilizing very high resolution UAV images, this paper examines the feasibility of NGL detection using hyperspectral detection algorithms and anomaly detectors. The issues of pixel resolution and hard decision thresholding in deriving accurate NGL maps are also explored. Results showed that the blind-detection algorithms RXDs are not suitable for NGL detection due to the spectra similarity between NGL and both mature leaves and grass, while brighter pixels, such as those produced by soil and concrete materials, are more easily recognized as anomaly in contrast to forest. Matching filter (MF) based detectors are, however, able to accurately detect NGL over forest stands and are even more effective in the sense of achieving satisfactory true positives and true negatives while providing minimal false alarms. Of the tested partial knowledge MF algorithms, the covariance matched filter based distance (KMFD) detector performed very well with overall accuracy (OA) 0.97 and kappa coefficient () 0.60 on a natural resolution of 6.75 cm image. When a variety of mature-leaf nonobjective targets are included in the detection, the orthogonal subspace projector (OSP) tends to suppress NGL pixels as an unwanted signature and this leads to poor detection. Conversely, the target constrained interference minimized filter (TCIMF) detector is still able to effectively detect NGL with a satisfactory OA and through effective matching filter of the target signature as the hard-decision threshold is subject to a level of 5% or 1% probability of false alarms. From decimeter resolution satellite images, the KMFD and TCIMF detectors are capable of achieving an accuracy of OA = 0.94 and = 0.56 or OA = 0.87 and = 0.48 for images with a resolution of 33.75 cm or 67.50 cm respectively. This indicates that hyperspectral target detection techniques have great potential in NGL detection via high spatial resolution satellite multispectral images.
