[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationMots-clés libres : algorithms map labeling computational geometry geovisualization Résumé : (auteur) Point feature map labeling is a geometric visualization problem, in which a set of input points must be labeled with a set of disjoint rectangles (the bounding boxes of the label texts). It is predominantly motivated by label placement in maps but it also has other visualization applications. Typically, labeling models either use internal labels, which must touch their feature point, or external (boundary) labels, which are placed outside the input image and which are connected to their feature points by crossing-free leader lines. In this paper we study polynomial-time algorithms for maximizing the number of internal labels in a mixed labeling model that combines internal and external labels. The model requires that all leaders are parallel to a given orientation θ ∈ [0, 2π), the value of which influences the geometric properties and hence the running times of our algorithms. [Termes IGN] San DiegoRésumé : (Auteur) Two GEOBIA approaches are compared for their effectiveness in mapping dead trees within island montane forests of Southern California: a spatial contextual approach using an artificial neural network classifier, and a segmentation and multi-pixel classification approach. Both approaches are tested with multitemporal aerial orthoimagery having varying spatial resolutions. Spectral transformation inputs are also tested. An object-based accuracy assessment is conducted. Accuracies range between 30 percent to 90 percent for the dead tree class and are significantly higher for the spatial-contextual approach. Inclusion of spectral transforms increased accuracies by 5 percent for the true object-based approach, up to 13 percent for the spatial contextual approach, and reduced commission error up to 10 percent for both approaches. Masking techniques increased accuracies of the spatial contextual approach by 20 percent. With manual editing, the most accurate maps of individual live and dead trees from the spatial contextual approach are suitable for studying spatio-temporal trends in montane conifer mortality. The Bouguer gravity anomaly difference maps of (i) in situ and EIGEN6C4, (ii) in situ and EGM2008 and iii) EIGEN6C4 and EGM2008 of the study area are compared. It reveals that EIGEN6C4 has lesser systematic error than EGM2008. However, from different profile plots of Bouguer gravity, east–west horizontal derivative and north–south horizontal derivative anomalies of the in situ, EIGEN6C4 and EGM2008, it is observed that most of the signatures of lithounits and geological structural elements are delineated very well by EGM2008 and match 94–98% with those of EIGEN6C4. Further, the Bouguer gravity, east–west horizontal derivative and north–south horizontal derivative anomalies of EGM2008 data over the study area have been used effectively for identifying various lithounits and geological structural elements. [Termes IGN] validation des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) We live in a society in which instant gratification is expected: we demand constantly up-to-date information, which is reflected in our reliance on maps for navigation. Volunteered geographical information (VGI) and geocrowdsourcing make this demand attainable, with popular examples being Waze and OpenStreetMap, where maps are updated quickly by citizen contributors with current base data and features. At George Mason University (in Fairfax, Virginia), the Office of Disability Services releases a traditional paper accessibility map once annually. Owing to its production methods and format, this accessibility map does not capture the transient obstacles that occur frequently throughout campus, rendering it less useful to disabled pedestrians. To fix this dilemma and establish a more useful accessibility system, we have created an application in which contributors report transient obstacles that may impede pedestrian navigation, including sidewalk obstructions, construction detours, and other obstacles that may affect pathway walkability. One of the concerns associated with VGI and geocrowdsourced information is quality assurance, which is imperative when the usage scenarios (including blind, visually impaired, and mobility-impaired navigation) depend on positional accuracy. This study attempts to address the concerns related to the quality assurance of VGI, specifically quality assessment of the positional accuracy of the geocrowdsourced spatial data. We present our quality assessment techniques and novel methods for assessing the consistency of positional characteristics of geocrowdsourced spatial data related to accessibility. These methods rely on moderated positional assessments, geotags extracted from contributed images, and gazetteer-based geoparsing of location descriptions. Finally, we base our methods and approaches on research contributions and best practices from past and current efforts in accessibility mapping.
