[Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) This paper investigates the potential of multitemporal/polarization C-band SAR data for land-cover classification. Multitemporal Radarsat-1 data with HH polarization and ENVISAT ASAR data with VV polarization acquired in the Yedang plain, Korea are used for the classification of typical five land-cover classes in an agricultural area. The presented methodologies consist of two analytical stages: one for feature extraction and the other for classification based on the combination of features. Both a traditional SAR signal property analysis-based approach and principal-component analysis (PCA) are applied in the feature extraction stage. Special concerns are in the interpretation of each principal component by using principal-component loading. The tau model applied as a decision-level fusion methodology can provide a formal framework in which the posteriori probabilities derived from different sensor data can be combined. From the case study results, the combination of PCA-based features showed improved classification accuracy for both Radarsat-1 and ENVISAT ASAR data, as compared with the traditional SAR signal property analysis-based approach. The integration of PCA-based features based on multiple polarization (i.e. HH from Radarsat-1, and both VV and VH from ENVISAT ASAR) and different incidence angles contributed to a significant improvement of discrimination capability for dry fields which could not be properly classified by using only Radarsat-1 or ENVISAT ASAR data, and thus showed the best classification accuracy. The results of this case study indicate that the use of multiple polarization SAR data with a proper feature extraction stage would improve classification accuracy in multitemporal SAR data classification, although further consideration should be given to the polarization and incidence angle dependency of complex land-cover classes through more experiments. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) The twentieth century saw fundamental shifts in northern Eurasian political and land-management paradigms, in Russia culminating in the political transition of 1991. We used the 1972 to 2001 Landsat archive bracketing this transition to observe change trends in southern central Siberian Russia in primarily forested study sites. Landsat resolved conifer, mixed, deciduous and young forest; cuts, burns, and insect disturbance; and wetland, agriculture, bare, urban, and water land covers. Over 70 percent of forest area in the three study sites was likely disturbed prior to 1974. Conifer forest decreased over the 1974 to 2001 study period, with the greatest decrease 1974 to 1990. Logging activity (primarily in conifers) declined more during the 1991 to 2001 post-Soviet period. The area of Young forest increased more during the 1974 to 1990 time period. Deciduous forest increased over both time periods. Agriculture declined over both time periods contributing to forest regrowth in this region. [Termes IGN] PostgreSQLRésumé : (Auteur) This paper discusses extensions of GAP-trees from three aspects and its implementation based on non-topological structure in order to enhance access to large vector data sets. First of all, we apply cartographic generalization rules to build a generalization procedure of the GAP-tree, which makes coarse representations more consistent with human cognition. Second, we replace the three-dimensional (pseudo-) Reactive-tree index with a 2D R-tree index and a B-tree index to improve the system efficiency. Finally, we compress a binary GAP-tree into multi-way GAP-trees in order to reduce data redundancy. The shallower multi-way GAP-trees not only eliminate redundant data but also accelerate the system's response time. The extensions have been successfully implemented in PostgreSQL. A test of Beijing's land-use data at the 1:10 000 scale demonstrates that the extended GAP-trees are efficient, compact, and easy to implement.
