Vertical Electrical Soundings are conducted at 35 locations in Gurpur watershed using Schlumberger array. The thematic layers like porosity, transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity are prepared using electrical resistivity data. Total of 13 thematic layers are used for vector integration and identification of Groundwater Potential Zones (GWPZ). The numerical weights and ranks are assigned to the themes based on their relationship with groundwater. The findings shows that the depth to bedrock varies from 9.1 to 44.4 m and most of the mid land and low land region shows moderate to high depths of about 25–44 m. The GWPZ are classified into five classes namely, Very Good (≈21.02 km2), Good (≈231.35 km2), Moderate (≈420.76 km2), Poor (≈185.05 km2) and Very Poor (≈19.56 km2). The Good and Moderate categories cover ≈75% of total area. [Termes descripteurs IGN] Yvelines (78)Résumé : (auteur) The spatial assessment of soil organic carbon (SOC) is a major environmental challenge, notably for evaluating soil carbon stocks. Recent works have shown the capability of Sentinel-2 to predict SOC content over temperate agroecosystems characterized with annual crops. However, because spectral models are only applicable on bare soils, the mapping of SOC is often obtained on limited areas. A possible improvement for increasing the number of pixels on which SOC can be retrieved by inverting bare soil reflectance spectra, consists of using optical images acquired at several dates. This study compares different approaches of Sentinel–2 images temporal mosaicking to produce a composite multi-date bare soil image for predicting SOC content over agricultural topsoils. A first approach for temporal mosaicking was based on a per-pixel selection and was driven by soil surface characteristics: bare soil or dry bare soil with/without removing dry vegetation. A second approach for creating composite images was based on a per-date selection and driven either by the models performance from single-date, or by average soil surface indicators of bare soil or dry bare soil. To characterize soil surface, Sentinel-1 (S1)-derived soil moisture and/or spectral indices such as normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), Normalized Burn Ratio 2 (NBR2), bare soil index (BSI) and a soil surface moisture index (S2WI) were used either separately or in combination. This study highlighted the following results: i) none of the temporal mosaic images improved model performance for SOC prediction compared to the best single-date image; ii) of the per-pixel approaches, temporal mosaics driven by the S1-derived moisture content, and to a lesser extent, by NBR2 index, outperformed the mosaic driven by the BSI index but they did not increase the bare soil area predicted; iii) of the per-date approaches, the best trade-off between predicted area and model performance was achieved from the temporal mosaic driven by the S1-derived moisture content (R2 ~ 0.5, RPD ~ 1.4, RMSE ~ 3.7 g.kg-1) which enabled to more than double (*2.44) the predicted area. This study suggests that a number of bare soil mosaics based on several indicators (moisture, bare soil, roughness…), preferably in combination, might maintain acceptable accuracies for SOC prediction whilst extending over larger areas than single-date images. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Background: Biomass ratio (BR) is a forest state variable allowing the conversion of forest volume of growing stock into biomass. Despite huge intraspecific variation in wood density depending on the biotic and abiotic environments of tree growth, this variable is most often considered a tree species constant in C budgets. The aims were i) to identify variations in BR along decorrelated water, soil nutrition and elevation gradients, ii) to test for differences between broadleaved and conifer tree species in BR variations, and iii) to weight the contribution of interspecific and intraspecific diversity in BR variations.
Methods: Analyses were based on massive wood density measurements performed with an X-ray medical scanner on 54,700 tree cores collected in 2016 and 2017 on the spatially systematic plot sampling design of the French national forest inventory (NFI) program.
Results: BR variations along the three gradients were found significant. BR hence decreased by 73 kg.m-3 (conifers) and 126 kg.m-3 (broadleaves) along a 180 mm gradient of soil water holding capacity (SWHC). It also increased by 153 kg.m-3 on average along the full gradient of soil basicity Index (SBI). A negative trend along elevation was also identified, with an average decrease by 155 kg.m-3 from 200 to 2000 m of elevation. Species distribution was found to be the main cause of BR variations along these gradients.
Conclusions: We report dependences of BR on both water (–), nutrient availability (+) and warmth (+) gradients, more acute in broadleaves than in conifers only for water availability. At the scale of the whole French forests, intraspecific variations in wood density do not affect BR estimations along these gradients. BR variations are mainly driven by the tree stand species composition along them.Numéro de notice : A2021-082 Affiliation des auteurs : LIF+Ext (2020- ) Thématique : FORET Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1007/s11258-020-01106-0 date de publication en ligne : 03/01/2021 En ligne : https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11258-020-01106-0 Format de la ressource électronique : url article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=96826

Droughts propagate through the hydrological cycle and may impact vulnerable ecosystems. This paper investigates drought propagation in the hydrological cycle, focusing on assessing its impact on a groundwater-fed wetland ecosystem. Meteorological drought indices were used to analyze meteorological drought severity. Moreover, a method for assessing groundwater drought and its propagation in the aquifer was developed and applied. Groundwater drought was analyzed using the variable threshold method. Furthermore, meteorological drought and groundwater drought on recharge were compared to investigate drought propagation in the hydrological cycle. This research is carried out in the Doode Bemde wetland in central Belgium. The results of this research show that droughts are attenuated in the groundwater system. The number and severity of drought events on groundwater discharge were smaller than for groundwater recharge. However, the onset of both drought events occurred at the same time, indicating a quick response of the groundwater system to hydrological stresses. In addition, drought propagation in the hydrological cycle indicated that not all meteorological droughts result in groundwater drought. Furthermore, this drought propagation effect was observed in the wetland.
