A soil moisture index (SMI) derived from NDVI-Ts space is combined to all other variables, based on stepwise multiple regression, to develop a new SSMC model. Performance of this model was assessed using field-measured data of SSM. Accuracy was performed by the k-fold cross validation method, it showed a R2 (coefficients of determination) of 0.70, RMSE of 1.58% and unRMSE of 0.5%. In addition, the results of the developed model were compared with another soil moisture model SMM proposed in the irrigated perimeter of Tadla (Morocco), and revealed that the established model provided effectiveness results in the study areas. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) This study explores the groundwater vulnerability of the chalk aquifer (northern part of France) using a well-known overlay and index DRASTIC method for intrinsic scenario and using land use (LU) parameter as additional factor. Different sources have allowed to compile data necessary to map the vulnerability of the aquifer under study, which used to generate the seven parameters of DRASTIC, namely: groundwater Depth, groundwater Recharge, lithology, Soil media, Topography, Impact of the vadose zone and hydraulic Conductivity. Applying the model in ArcGIS 10.2 platform leads to identify three classes of vulnerability: low, medium and high vulnerability. The highest DRASTIC indexes appear in areas where the groundwater depth is low and in more permeable unsaturated zones. The LU has a little effect on the distribution of vulnerability classes: this distribution is marked by the low vulnerability 44% against 6.5 of high vulnerability. [Termes IGN] température au solRésumé : (Auteur) The occurrence of drought is related to complicated interactions between many factors, such as precipitation, temperature, evapotranspiration and vegetation. In this study, the relationships between drought and precipitation, temperature, vegetation and evapotranspiration were investigated with a random forest (RF), and a new combined drought monitoring index (CDMI) was constructed. The effectiveness of the CDMI in monitoring drought in Shaanxi Province was verified by the in situ 1 ∼ 12-month standardized precipitation index (SPI); relative soil moisture (RSM) and four other commonly used remote sensing drought monitoring indices. The results show that CDMI is more correlated with the SPI and RSM than the four indices. Moreover, the spatial distributions of drought for the CDMI and RSM are similar. Therefore, the CDMI can be used to monitor droughts in Shaanxi Province, and machine learning can explore the relationships between various factors and establish a drought index without knowledge of the causal mechanisms of these factors. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Electrical resistivity method and RS & GIS techniques are very much useful in identification of potential aquifer zones for exploitation, management and recharge of groundwater. Vertical Electrical Soundings are conducted at 35 locations in Gurpur watershed using Schlumberger array. The thematic layers like porosity, transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity are prepared using electrical resistivity data. Total of 13 thematic layers are used for vector integration and identification of Groundwater Potential Zones (GWPZ). The numerical weights and ranks are assigned to the themes based on their relationship with groundwater. The findings shows that the depth to bedrock varies from 9.1 to 44.4 m and most of the mid land and low land region shows moderate to high depths of about 25–44 m. The GWPZ are classified into five classes namely, Very Good (≈21.02 km2), Good (≈231.35 km2), Moderate (≈420.76 km2), Poor (≈185.05 km2) and Very Poor (≈19.56 km2). The Good and Moderate categories cover ≈75% of total area.
