[Termes IGN] vagueRésumé : (auteur) Observational data of coastal change over much of the Arctic are limited largely due to its immensity, remoteness, harsh environment, and restricted periods of sunlight and ice-free conditions. Barter Island, Alaska, is one of the few locations where an extensive, observational dataset exists, which enables a detailed assessment of the trends and patterns of coastal change over decadal to annual time scales. Coastal bluff and shoreline positions were delineated from maps, aerial photographs, and satellite imagery acquired between 1947 and 2020, and at a nearly annual rate since 2004. Rates and patterns of shoreline and bluff change varied widely over the observational period. Shorelines showed a consistent trend of southerly erosion and westerly extension of the western termini of Barter Island and Bernard Spit, which has accelerated since at least 2000. The 3.2 km long stretch of ocean-exposed coastal permafrost bluffs retreated on average 114 m and at a maximum of 163 m at an average long-term rate (70 year) of 1.6 ± 0.1 m/yr. The long-term retreat rate was punctuated by individual years with retreat rates up to four times higher (6.6 ± 1.9 m/yr; 2012–2013) and both long-term (multidecadal) and short-term (annual to semiannual) rates showed a steady increase in retreat rates through time, with consistently high rates since 2015. A best-fit polynomial trend indicated acceleration in retreat rates that was independent of the large spatial and temporal variations observed on an annual basis. Rates and patterns of bluff retreat were correlated to incident wave energy and air and water temperatures. Wave energy was found to be the dominant driver of bluff retreat, followed by sea surface temperatures and warming air temperatures that are considered proxies for evaluating thermo-erosion and denudation. Normalized anomalies of cumulative wave energy, duration of open water, and air and sea temperature showed at least three distinct phases since 1979: a negative phase prior to 1987, a mixed phase between 1987 and the early to late 2000s, followed by a positive phase extending to 2020. The duration of the open-water season has tripled since 1979, increasing from approximately 40 to 140 days. Acceleration in retreat rates at Barter Island may be related to increases in both thermodenudation, associated with increasing air temperature, and the number of niche-forming and block-collapsing episodes associated with higher air and water temperature, more frequent storms, and longer ice-free conditions in the Beaufort Sea. The importance of flood maps in governing strategies for flood risk management is of prime importance. Flood inundation maps are considered dependable output generated from simulation results from hydraulic models in evaluating flood risks. In the present work, a continuous hydrologic-hydraulic model has been implemented for mapping the flood, caused by the Baitarani River of Odisha, India. A rainfall time-series data were fed into the hydrologic model and the runoff generated from the model was given as an input into the hydraulic model. The study was performed using the HEC-HMS model and the FLO-2D model to map the extent of flooding in the area. Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) 90 m Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, Land use/Land cover map (LULC), soil texture data of the basin area were used to compute the topographic and hydraulic parameters. Flood inundation was simulated using the FLO-2D model and based on the flow depth, hazard zones were specified using the MAPPER tool of the hydraulic model. Bhadrak District was found to be the most hazard-prone district affected by the flood of the Baitarani River. The result of the study exhibited the hydraulic model as a utile tool for generating inundation maps. An approach for assessing the risk of flooding and proper management could help in mitigating the flood. The automated procedure for mapping and the details of the study can be used for planning flood disaster preparedness in the worst affected area. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Bryophytes and lichens are two main components of the forest floor vegetation. They provide essential ecosystem services, including nutrient recycling and water regulation. Here, we contrast the species richness, cover and community composition of forest floor bryophytes and lichens in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway spruce (Picea abies) dominated production forests. The study sites were located in the hemiboreal zone of southern Sweden, and represented early-, mid- and late rotation stands. Our aim was to examine the potential consequences for forest floor biodiversity from the decreasing use of Scots pine production forests in this region. Whereas Scots pine and Norway spruce stands did not differ in bryophyte cover, we found a higher cover of lichens in Scots pine stands, and highest in the intermediate aged stands. Also the species richness of lichens was higher in the Scots pine stands, while bryophyte species richness was higher in the Norway spruce stands. Differences in canopy cover and associated light transmittance to the forest floor appears to be important drivers for distinctive different forest floor communities in the Scots pine and Norway spruce stands, as revealed by Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS). Mean Ellenberg indicator values for bryophytes and lichens showed that species associated with Scots pine stands were characterized by their tolerance of brighter conditions, higher insolation, and better adaptation to a continental climate. Norway spruce stands instead had a comparably larger proportion of species tolerating lower light, but also indicators of higher available nutrient levels, humidity, and pH. The outcome of the Ellenberg indicator species analysis, as well as the larger cover of lichens, and adaptations to drought found among some mosses, revealed that forest floor communities are shaped by different environmental factors in Scots pine and Norway spruce production stands. These environmental differences, and the quantified shifts in forest floor communities identified in this study, indicate the large shifts in understory bryophyte and lichen species composition and abundance that is likely to occur if Scots pine stands are converted to Norway spruce. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) The rapid expansion and unreasonable design of impervious surfaces caused by urbanization have seriously aggravated urban waterlogging. Determining how to optimize the spatial layout of impervious surfaces is the focus of urban waterlogging prevention in urban renewal. The existing urban-renewal methods include constructing low-impact development measures by reducing the area of impervious surfaces or implementing a local high-strength design based on the ant colony algorithm (ACA) from the viewpoint of optimization design. However, these methods have obvious shortcomings in terms of time efficiency, and their optimized design schemes are insufficient at considering the global impervious surface design. Therefore, to address these problems, the study proposes a coupled model of multivariate linear programming and Soil Conservation Service curve number. The model is employed in the central city of Guangzhou, China. The results show, first, that the optimal design of impervious surfaces in urban renewal is to construct a discontinuous connection of high-low-high-density impervious surfaces; second, that, compared with ACA, our method has higher robustness, increases the average optimization rate by 4.48 to 14.00%, and reduces the optimization time over 30 days to 20.8 s; and third, that the optimal results realize the global low-strength transformation as complements of the existing design scheme of local high-strength transformation. This study optimizes methods for alleviating urban waterlogging urban renewal at different scales or intensities. [Termes IGN] texture du solRésumé : (auteur) The present study aimed to propose an operational approach for estimating surface soil moisture from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data by considering diverse environmental variables such as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), land surface temperature (Ts), evapotranspiration, topographic parameters (elevation and aspect) and soil texture (clay, loam and silt). A soil moisture index (SMI) derived from NDVI-Ts space is combined to all other variables, based on stepwise multiple regression, to develop a new SSMC model. Performance of this model was assessed using field-measured data of SSM. Accuracy was performed by the k-fold cross validation method, it showed a R2 (coefficients of determination) of 0.70, RMSE of 1.58% and unRMSE of 0.5%. In addition, the results of the developed model were compared with another soil moisture model SMM proposed in the irrigated perimeter of Tadla (Morocco), and revealed that the established model provided effectiveness results in the study areas.
