[Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (auteur) Coastline or Shoreline calculation is one of the important factors in the finding of coastal accretion and erosion and the study of coastal morphodynamic. Coastal erosion is a tentative hazard for communities especially in coastal areas as it is extremely susceptible to increasing coastal disasters. The study has been conducted along the coast of Vishakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh, India with the help of multi-temporal satellite images of 1991 2001, 2011 and 2018. The continuing coastal erosion and accretion rates have been calculated using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). Linear regression rate (LRR), End Point Rate (EPR) and Weighted Linear Regression (WLR) are used for calculating shoreline change rate. Based on calculations the district shoreline has been classified into five categories as high and low erosion, no change and high and low accretion. Out of 135 km, high erosion occupied 5.8 km of coast followed by moderate or low erosion 46.2 km. Almost 34.7 km coastal length showed little or no change. Moderate accretion is found along 30.5 km whereas high accretion trend found around 17.8 km. The outcome of shows that erosion is prevailing in Vishakhapatnam taluk, Ankapalli taluk, Yellamanchili taluk whereas most of the Bhemunipatnam coast is accreting. Natural and manmade activities and phenomena influence the coastal areas in terms of erosion and accretion. The study could be used for further planning and development and also for disaster management authority in the decision-making process in the study area. [Termes IGN] Pacifique (océan)Résumé : (auteur) The study investigated geomorphology of the Japan Trench located east of Japan, Pacific Ocean. A high-resolution GEBCO Gridded Bathymetric Dataset was used for modeling, mapping and visualization. The study aimed to compare and analyse variations in the geomorphic structures of the two parts of the trench and to visualize variations in the geological, geophysical and bathymetric settings. Technically, the cartographic work was performed using scripting based on the Generic Mapping Toolset (GMT). Modelled cross-sectioning orthogonal profiles transecting the trench in a perpendicular direction were automatically digitized and graphed in the two segments. The results of the bathymetric analysis shown that the southern part is shallower: with deeper values in absolute (139 samples between –7000 to –8000 m) and statistical records (the most frequent values are within –5500 to –5800 m) comparing to the northern segment (–5300 to –5500 m). The geomorphological analysis shows a more complicated relief in the northern part of the trench, which has a higher seismic activity. The southern part has a gentler slope on the Honshu island side. The geoid modeling along the trench ranges in 0–20 mGal. The highest values are recorded by the Honshu Island (>40 mGal). The rest of the area has rather moderate undulations (20–40 mGal). [Termes IGN] tsunamiRésumé : (auteur) On the 17 June 2017, a massive landslide which mobilized 35–58 million m3 of material entered the Karrat Isfjord in western Greenland. It triggered a tsunami wave with a runup height exceeding 90 m close to the landslide, ca. 50 m on the opposite shore of the fjord. The tsunami travelled ca. 32 km along the fjord and reached the settlement of Nuugaatsiaq with ca. 1–1.5 m high waves which flooded the terrain up to 9 m a.s.l. (above sea level). Tsunami waves were powerful enough to destroy the community infrastructure, impact fragile coastal tundra landscape, and unfortunately injure several inhabitants and cause four deaths. Our field survey carried out 25 months after the event results in documentation of the previously unreported scale of damage in the settlement (ca. 48 % of infrastructure objects including houses and administration buildings were destroyed by the tsunami). We have observed a recognizable difference in the concentration of tsunami deposit accumulations between areas of the settlement overwashed by the wave and areas of runup and return flow. The key tsunami effects preserved in the coastal landscape were eroded coastal bluffs, gullied and dissected edges of cliffed coast in the harbour, and tundra vegetation compressed by boulders or icebergs rafted onshore during the event. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Landslide susceptibility is an important topic mainly because its geo-spatial analysis provides a useful tool for planning, disaster management and hazard mitigation. In this study, the aim is to identify and analyze landslide susceptibility at a local spatial scale, which is represented by the town of Handlová, using the multi-criteria evaluation (i.e., the analytical hierarchy process technique – AHP) and geographic information systems (GIS). The following landslide conditioning factors were selected representing the local terrain predispositions: slope angle, geology, slope aspect, elevation, distance from rivers, distance from faults and land use. The raster-based analysis was performed using the spatial resolution of 10 × 10 m. The weights for each factor were determined by the AHP technique where slope angle had the highest relative importance. Based on the resulting susceptibility map, 51.98% out of the total study area is characterized by high and very high susceptibility class. The Atlas of Slope Stability of the Slovak Republic, which contains past landslides until 2006, was used for verification of the results. The verification confirmed a moderate accuracy between the landslide susceptibility map and landslide inventory from the atlas since 60.8% of all landslide areas from the atlas corresponded with high and very high susceptibility class. [Termes IGN] site archéologiqueRésumé : (auteur) In the past decade, Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) has fundamentally changed our ability to remotely detect archaeological features and deepen our understanding of past human-environment interactions, settlement systems, agricultural practices, and monumental constructions. Across archaeological contexts, lidar relief visualization techniques test how local environments impact archaeological prospection. This study used a 132 km2 lidar dataset to assess three relief visualization techniques—sky-view factor (SVF), topographic position index (TPI), and simple local relief model (SLRM)—and object-based image analysis (OBIA) on a slope model for the non-automated visual detection of small hinterland Classic (250–800 CE) Maya settlements near the polities of Uxbenká and Ix Kuku’il in Southern Belize. Pedestrian survey in the study area identified 315 plazuelas across a 35 km2 area; the remaining 90 km2 in the lidar dataset is yet to be surveyed. The previously surveyed plazuelas were compared to the plazuelas visually identified on the TPI and SLRM. In total, an additional 563 new possible plazuelas were visually identified across the lidar dataset, using TPI and SLRM. Larger plazuelas, and especially plazuelas located in disturbed environments, are often more likely to be detected in a visual assessment of the TPI and SLRM. These findings emphasize the extent and density of Classic Maya settlements and highlight the continued need for pedestrian survey to ground-truth remotely identified archaeological features and the impact of modern anthropogenic behaviors for archaeological prospection. Remote sensing and lidar have deepened our understanding of past human settlement systems and low-density urbanism, processes that we experience today as humans residing in modern cities Numéro de notice : A2020-598 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.3390/rs12172838 Date de publication en ligne : 01/09/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.3390/rs12172838 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=95944
