The aim of this experiment was to clarify the repeatability of gravity potential values as International Height Reference System (IHRS) coordinates from different geoid determination approaches carried out with the same input dataset. The dataset included the terrestrial and airborne gravity observations, a digital terrain model, the XGM2016 global geopotential model and GPS/leveling data for model validations belonging to a mountainous area of approximately 550 km × 730 km in Colorado, US. The dataset was provided by National Geodetic Survey (NGS) department. In this frame, this article aims providing a discussion on Colorado geoid modeling through individual experimental results obtained by Istanbul Technical University-Gravity Research Group (ITU-GRG). This contribution mainly focused on modeling the Colorado geoid using the least squares modifications of Stokes and Hotine integral formulas with additive corrections. The computations using each formula were carried out using ITU-GRG software, including the solution variants based on terrestrial-only, airborne-only and combined gravity datasets. Then, the calculated experimental geoid models were validated using historical and recently measured profile-based GPS/leveling datasets, and they were also compared with the official solutions submitted by different institutions for the “1-cm geoid experiment” of IAG JWG 2.2.2. For all validation results, the Hotine and Stokes integral formulas yielded similar performances in terms of geoid accuracy; however, the models computed using the combined data had better accuracy than those using the terrestrial-only and airborne-only solutions. The geoid model solutions using the combined data had an accuracy of 2.69 cm for the Hotine method and 2.87 cm for the Stokes method in the test results using GPS/leveling data of the GSVS17 (Geoid Slope Validation Survey 2017) profile. Airborne data from the Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum (GRAV-D) project contributed significantly towards improving the geoid model, especially in the mountainous parts of the area. [Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (auteur) Coastal erosion is an issue which affects beaches all over the world and that signifies enormous economic and environmental losses. Classed as a slow phenomenon, the evolution of the coastline requires long-term analysis. In this study, old cartography and aerial photographs from various dates have been used to study the evolution of the coastline. The information has been processed with free software (QGIS) and for the calculation of sediment transport the Coastal Modeling System (SMC) software. The results show the accretion/erosion phenomena that occurred after the construction of the port in San Pedro del Pinatarin 1954 and which changed the coastal dynamics of a highly protected area. In some sectors, the beach has been reduced almost in its entirety, with retreat rates of up to −2.05 m per year and a total area loss of 66,419.81 m2 in Las Salinas beach and 76,891.13 m2 on Barraca Quemada beach. [Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (auteur) In this study, we analyze the influence of the Great East Japan Earthquake, which occurred on 11 March 2011, on the shoreline of the northern Ibaraki Coast. After the earthquake, the area experienced subsidence of approximately 0.4 m. Shoreline changes at eight sandy beaches along the coast are estimated using various satellite images, including the ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer), ALOS AVNIR-2 (Advanced Land Observing Satellite, Advanced Visible and Near-infrared Radiometer type 2), and Sentinel-2 (a multispectral sensor). Before the earthquake (for the period March 2001–January 2011), even though fluctuations in the shoreline position were observed, shorelines were quite stable, with the averaged change rates in the range of ±1.5 m/year. The shoreline suddenly retreated due to the earthquake by 20–40 m. Generally, the amount of retreat shows a strong correlation with the amount of land subsidence caused by the earthquake, and a moderate correlation with tsunami run-up height. The ground started to uplift gradually after the sudden subsidence, and shoreline positions advanced accordingly. The recovery speed of the beaches varied from +2.6 m/year to +6.6 m/year, depending on the beach conditions. [Termes IGN] zone arideRésumé : (Auteur) This article explores using satellite images to monitor spatiotemporal variations in temperature related to urban form. Land surface temperatures (LST) were estimated from Landsat images (1986–2016) and the land cover and urban form LST were extracted by using samples representing different urban forms/cover types. A transect of 20 km was taken across the city to derive the LST across the different land cover types. Urban heat island index and statistical analysis were carried out to understand the influence of urban form and cover on changes in surface temperature. The results are compared with temperature regimes of an industrial city (Yanbu) to depict differences in the two cities. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) shows variations, at 0.01 level of significance, in the LST values of the city centre, high-rise, low-density, vegetation, desert and industrial land-use types. The outcome of the study is valuable for decision-makers in achieving sustainable urban development.
