[Termes IGN] trace GPSRésumé : (auteur) Crowdsourced traces collected by GPS devices during sports activities are now widely available on different websites. The goal of this paper is to study the potential of crowdsourced traces coming from GPS devices to highlight updates in authoritative geographic data. To reach this goal, an approach based on two steps is proposed. First, a data matching method is applied to match authoritative data and crowdsourced traces. Second, for the non-matched crowdsourced segments composing a trace, different criteria are defined to decide if whether or not, non-matched segments should be considered as an alert for update in authoritative data. The proposed approach is tested on crowdsourced traces and on BDTOPO® authoritative road and path network in mountain area. The results are promising: 727, 1 km of missing paths were found in the test area, which corresponds to 7.7% of the total length of used traces. The discovered missing paths also represent a contribution of 2.4% of the total length of BDTopo® road and path network in the test area. Note de contenu :

[Termes IGN] UkraineRésumé : (auteur) Satellite imagery of 25–30 m spatial resolution has been recognized as an effective tool for monitoring the spatial and temporal dynamics of forest cover at different scales. However, the precise mapping of forest cover over fragmented landscapes is complicated and requires special consideration. We have evaluated the performance of four global forest products of 25–30 m spatial resolution within three flatland subregions of Ukraine that have different forest cover patterns. We have explored the relationship between tree cover extracted from the global forest change (GFC) and relative stocking density of forest stands and justified the use of a 40% tree cover threshold for mapping forest in flatland Ukraine. In contrast, the canopy cover threshold for the analogous product Landsat tree cover continuous fields (LTCCF) is found to be 25%. Analysis of the global forest products, including discrete forest masks Global PALSAR-2/PALSAR Forest/Non-Forest Map (JAXA FNF) and GlobeLand30, has revealed a major misclassification of forested areas under severe fragmentation patterns of landscapes. The study also examined the effectiveness of forest mapping over fragmented landscapes using dense time series of Landsat images. We collected 1548 scenes of Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) for the period 2014–2016 and composited them into cloudless mosaics for the following four seasons: yearly, summer, autumn, and April–October. The classification of images was performed in Google Earth Engine (GEE) Application Programming Interface (API) using random forest (RF) classifier. As a result, 30 m spatial resolution forest mask for flatland of Ukraine was created. The user’s and producer’s accuracy were estimated to be 0.910 ± 0.015 and 0.880 ± 0.018, respectively. The total forest area for the flatland Ukraine is 9440.5 ± 239.4 thousand hectares, which is 3% higher than official data. In general, we conclude that the Landsat-derived forest mask performs well over fragmented landscapes if forest cover of the territory is higher than 10–15% Numéro de notice : A2020-225 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.3390/rs12010187 Date de publication en ligne : 05/01/2020 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.3390/rs12010187 Format de la ressource électronique : url article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=94940

[Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Amongst mass wasting events, rockfalls remain the most unpredictable and the most frequent hazard in the alpine region. In a context of growing urbanization in mountainous regions, rockfalls represent an increasing risk for local communities and infrastructures. This thesis aims to develop an association of relevant methods for rockfall monitoring. One objective of this thesis is to associate topography measurement and seismological monitoring in order to improve significantly in understanding rockfalls dynamics. This work was mainly carried out in the Chartreuse massif (Isère, French Alps), and in particular two cliffs, Mount Saint-Eynard and Mount Granier. Using photogrammetry, we acquired diachronic Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of the cliffs. Such monitoring enables us to carry out rockfall inventories and occurrence frequency analysis. It also provides us information on rockfall locations and their structural configurations. Combining DEMs and rockfall seismic monitoring allowed us to study relations between rockfall properties (location, volume, geometry, propagation, etc.) and the induced seismic signal. Characteristics of the seismic signal (duration and energy, frequency content, envelope shape) vary depending on the event propagation mode (mass-flow, free-fall, sliding, bouncing …). Selecting events with the same propagation type provides a more accurate characterization of rockfalls properties than when mixing different types of events. For free-falling rockfalls, we analyze the seismic signal of the detachment phases and first impacts. We found relations between seismic signals parameters and rockfalls potential energy, free-fall heights, and volumes. For mass-flow type events, we found a scaling law between rockfalls seismic energy and their volumes. By coupling DEMs and seismic records, we can reconstruct rockfall sequence with accurate timing and correct volume estimations. Controlled block releases were realized in laboratory and on-site to widen our observations on rockfall events. Note de contenu : 1- Slopes dynamics and weathering

[Termes IGN] ventRésumé : (Editeur) This book includes eight studies that examine the issue of spatial variability in four areas of the environmental sciences – atmospheric science, geological science, biological science, and landscape science. The topics range from monitoring of wind, the urban heat island, and atmospheric pollution, to coastal geomorphology, landscape planning and forest ecology, the problem of introduced species to regional ecologies, and a technique to improve the identification of human constructions in semi-natural landscapes. A small volume can only offer a small glimpse at the activities of scientists and insights into environmental science, but the array of papers herein offers a unique view of the current scholarship.
