[Termes IGN] vue perspectiveRésumé : (Auteur) An augmented scene delivery system (ASDS) creates and distributes annotated cartographic products in real time from captured still imagery. An ASDS applies augmented reality technology to the visualization of unrestricted exterior viewsheds through an adaptive, perspective-based surface resampling model. This paper describes an ASDS testing platform, introduces a client/server model for distributing augmented scenes over the Internet, presents a linear-time algorithm for resampling dense elevation models for perspective imaging and conducts an execution analysis of the algorithm's implementation, demonstrating that augmented scenes can be constructed and delivered efficiently. The paper also presents a migration path to mobile ASDS platforms with a discussion of the remaining technological problems associated with its implementation. [Termes IGN] géomatique webRésumé : (Auteur) Two important recent developments in exploration technology have been delivery of stronger spatial data access and management capabilities through the internet, and advanced workflow support within GIS, which has become a standard spatial platform for integrating and analysing geospatial data with geology and other exploration datasets. Both are helping explorers to work faster and smarter ; to easily share data and knowledge across teams, departments and regional boundaries ; and to manage and make sense of larger amounts of digital data for exploration decision-making. [Termes IGN] technologies de l'information et de la communicationRésumé : (Auteur) Although viewed by business and commerce as successful solutions, geodemographic profiling of neighbourhoods has attracted wide-ranging criticism in the academic literature. This paper addresses some specific concerns that arise because the derivation of classifications is rarely transparent and open to scrutiny or challenge. The substantive focus of the research reported in this paper is a nationwide geodemographic classification of how people engage with new information and communication technologies (ICTs). In response to the critique of geodemographics as a 'black box' technology, we describe how the classification was opened up to public scrutiny and how we conducted a major consultation exercise into the reliability of its results. We assess the message of the 50,000+ searches and 3952 responses collected during the consultation exercise, in terms of possible systematic errors in the shape and detail of the classification. Unusually for Internet-based surveys, we also investigate the likely reliability of the response information received and identify ways in which the outcome of consultation might be used to improve the classification. We believe that this is the first-ever large-scale consultation survey of the validity and remit of a geodemographic classification and that it may have wider implications for the creation of geodemographic classifications.
