[Termes IGN] système d'information foncièreRésumé : (Auteur) Success factors in secure land-tenure policy include robust collection of geospatial, anthropological and sociological data, acknowledging customary rights and land rights of women and the poor, and law enforcement capable of penetrating urban and rural areas and avoiding conflicts between statutory and customary law. The authors address these issues for developing countries and present their geospatial technology-based, in-house developed methodology for establishing secure land tenure. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) The design and development of a highly interactive web-based, GIS-enabled atlas is reported. The atlas is a prototype, designed as a model for implementation of atlases to support government cancer-control activities. This model integrates symbolisation and design principles from print cartography, interaction strategies from exploratory geovisualisation, and web-map/web-feature service advances from GIS. The atlas has been implemented using a client-server architecture. It makes use of two open-source GIS tools, PostGIS (as the system database) and GeoServer (to connect the database to the client mapping application). The client mapping application has been built in Macromedia Flash. The entire client-server architecture is described, then direct primary emphasis is focused on the client mapping application. For this component of the system, the interface design strategy is detailed, the approach taken to implement this strategy in Flash is documented, and the mechanisms developed to build dynamic links from the client to the underlying database through the server are outlined. Features of the atlas are presented through a prototypical use scenario for a target user. [Termes IGN] cartographie par internetRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we draw on the analysis of sound in film theory in order to explore the potential that sound offers cybercartography. We first argue that the theoretical body developed in film studies is highly relevant to the study of sound/image relationships in mapmaking. We then build on this argument to develop experimental animated and interactive sound maps for the Cybercartographic Atlas of Antarctica that further explore the potential of sound for integrating emotional, cultural and political dimensions in cartography. These maps have been designed to recreate cinematic soundscapes, to provide contrapuntal perspectives on the cartographic image and to generate an aural identity of the atlas. As part of this experimental mapping, an innovative sound infrastructure is being developed to allow complex sound designs to be transmitted over the Internet as part of atlas content. Through this infrastructure, the user can select as well as contribute his own sounds. The overall cartographic message is becoming less predictable, thus opening new perspectives on the way we design, interact with, and modify sounded maps over the Internet. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) From September 30th to October 2nd, 2008, Bremen hosted the world's largest conference and trade fair for geodesy, land management, and geoinformation at the Trade Exhibition Centre of Bremen. This event attracted more than 15,000 visitors together with delegates from over 50 countries. Bremen’s INTERGEO 2008 was the biggest assembly from the various industry sectors this year with the exhibition hall hosting approximately 500 companies. A team of scientific staff and students from the Technical University of Munich were given the task of tracing the trends in the exhibition halls at the Centre. They were commissioned by the Round Table GIS Initiative to carry out a trend analysis in terms of development priorities in the identified sectors, and the potential for innovation in the market. This article consists of the most interesting findings of this survey. [Termes IGN] Web Feature ServiceRésumé : (Auteur) The Web Feature Service (WFS) was described in this series a while ago. WFS is used to exchange the actual objects instead of images of the objects in the dataset as in, for example, WMS. WFS also has the ability to mutate or create objects and perform advanced queries similar to regular GIS systems.
