[Termes IGN] transformation linéaire directeRésumé : (Auteur) Very high resolution optical space images are coming more and more into competition to classical aerial images making them more important for mapping projects. The orientation process of the dominating CCD-line scanner images taken from space is quite different from the orientation of perspective photos. Different image products like nearly original images and images projected to a plane with constant height are available, this requires corresponding orientation solutions. All optical satellites are equipped with direct sensor orientation based on a positioning system, gyros and star sensors, so they can estimate the orientation parameters. For IKONOS, QuickBird and OrbView-3, this can be made without control points with a standard deviation of the ground coordinates in the range of 10 m and better. The orientation information is available as view direction from the scene centre or start of scene or as ephemeris and as rational polynomial coefficients (RPCs). This allows the determination of the scene orientation by geometric reconstruction or bias corrected RPCs using control points. In addition approximations like 3D-affine transformation, direct linear transformation and terrain related RPCs are in use. The accuracy of the methods is compared in relation to the number and distribution of the control points and the limitations of the approximations are investigated. The approximations of the orientations by 3D affine transformation and direct linear transformation can only handle images projected to a plane with constant height like IKONOS and QuickBird or Standard. For original images they are not leading to acceptable accuracy. In any case they require more and three-dimensional well distributed control points. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) We present a rigorous method for estimating some of the calibration parameters in airborne laser scanning (ALS), namely the three bore-sight angles and the range-finder offset. The technique is based on expressing the system calibration parameters within the direct-georeferencing equation separately for each target point, and conditioning a group of points to lie on a common surface of a known form such as a plane. However, the assumed a priori information about á chosen planar features is only their form not the spatial orientation or position. Thus, the 4·á plane parameters are estimated together with the calibration parameters in a combined adjustment model that makes use of GPS/INS-derived position and orientation as well as LiDAR range and encoder angle as observations. To make the approach practical when working with voluminous ALS and GPS/INS data, the contribution of each laser point to the normal equations is formed sequentially. The discussions focus on practical examples with data from a continuously-rotating scanner that reveal the conditions under which almost complete de-correlation between the estimated parameters occurs. In such a case, all bore-sight angles are determined with accuracy that is several times superior to the system noise level. Given sufficiently strong geometry, the presented method is shown to be not only accurate but also very robust in terms of convergence. When appropriate, the method is applicable for calibration of additional systematic effects such as laser-beam encoder offsets or scale factor with minimal modification to the functional model. Thereby, the parameters of exterior orientation (EO) of an image sensor are determined by GPS/INS, yielding results in a global geocentric reference frame. Photogrammetric products like digital terrain models or orthoimages, however, are often required in national geodetic datums and mapped by national map projections, i.e., in “national coordinates”. As the fundamental mathematics of photogrammetry is based on Cartesian coordinates, the scene restitution is often performed in a Cartesian frame located at some central position of the image block. The subsequent transformation to national coordinates is a standard problem in geodesy and can be done in a rigorous manner–at least if the formulas of the map projection are rigorous. Drawbacks of this procedure include practical deficiencies related to the photogrammetric processing as well as the computational cost of transforming the whole scene. To avoid these problems, the paper pursues an alternative processing strategy where the EO parameters are transformed prior to the restitution. If only this transition was done, however, the scene would be systematically distorted. The reason is that the national coordinates are not Cartesian due to the earth curvature and the unavoidable length distortion of map projections. To settle these distortions, several corrections need to be applied. These are treated in detail for both passive and active imaging. Since all these corrections are approximations only, the resulting technique is termed “approximate direct georeferencing”. Still, the residual distortions are usually very low as is demonstrated by simulations, rendering the technique an attractive approach to direct georeferencing.
