[Termes IGN] segment de droiteRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel method for semiautomatically constructing building models from photogrammetric 3D line segments of buildings, i.e., their roof edges. The method, which we call "Split MergeShape" (SMS), can treat both complete line segments as well as incomplete line segments due to image occlusions. The proposed method is comprised of five major parts: (1) the creation of the Region of Interest (ROI) and preprocessing, (2) splitting the model by using the 3D line segments to construct a combination of roof primitives, (3) merging connected roof primitives to complete the boundary of each building, (4) shaping each building rooftop by connected coplanar analysis and coplanar fitting, and (5) quality assurance. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can soundly rebuild the topology from the 3D line segments and reconstruct building models with up to a 98 percent success rate. The proposed SMS method has been proved reliable and effective, with a high degree of automation, even when groups of connected buildings or complex types of buildings are processed. [Termes IGN] solideRésumé : (Auteur) Building extraction based on preestablished models has been recognized as a promising idea for acquiring 3D data for buildings from aerial images. This paper proposes a novel building extraction method developed from the concept of fitting CSG (Constructive Solid Geometry) primitives to aerial images. To be practicable, this method adopts a semiautomatic procedure, carrying out highlevel tasks (building detection, model selection, and attribution) interactively by the operator and performing optimal modelimage fitting automatically with a leastsquares fitting algorithm. Buildings, represented by CSG models, can be reconstructed part by part after fitting each parameterized CSG primitive to the edge pixels of aerial images. Reconstructed building parts can then be combined using CSG Boolean set operators. Consequently, a building is represented by a CSG tree in which each node links two branches of combined parts. This paper demonstrates ten examples of building extraction from aerial photos taken at a scale of 1:5,000 and scanned at a pixel size of 25 1.um. All of the tests were performed in the prototypal system implemented in a CADbased environment cooperated with a number of specially designed programs. The process time for each primitive is about 20 seconds and the successful rate of model-image fitting was about 90 percent. Evaluated with some check points, the fitting accuracy was about 0,3 m horizontally and 1 m vertically. The test results are encouraging and promote the theory of modelbased building extraction. [Termes IGN] sphèreRésumé : (Auteur) In order to efficiently store and analyze spatial data on a global scale, the digital expression of Earth data in a data model must be global, continuous, and conjugate, i.e., a spherical dynamic data model is needed. The Voronoi data structure is the only published attempt (Wright and Goodchild, 1997) and the only possible solution currently available (Li et al., 1999) for a dynamic Gis. However, the complexity of the Voronoi algorithm for line sets and area sets in vector mode limits its application in a dynamic GIS. So far, there is no raster-based Voronoi algorithm for objects (including points, arcs, and regions) on a spherical surface. To overcome this serious deficiency, an algorithm for generating u spherical Voronoi diagram is presented, based on the O-QTM (Octahedral Quaternary Triangular Mesh). The principle of the dilation operation in mathematical morphology is extended to the spherical surface. A method is developed for a spherical distance transformation based on the QTM. A detailed algorithm is also presented. This algorithm can handle points, arcs, and area features on a spherical surface. Tests have shown that the computational time consumption of this algorithm with points, arcs, and areas is equal and proportionate to the levels of the spherical surface tessellation; and the difference (distortion) between the great circle distance and the QTm cells distance is slightly related to spherical distance (not as the roster dilation on a planar surface), and is mainly related to the locations of the generating points.
Note de contenu : 1.DEFINITION DE LA PROBLEMATIQUE

The methods of direct georeferencing naturally have a high level of automation where indirect methods still need manual interaction. Within this thesis, a completely implemented system for automatic indirect georeferencing is presented. The developed procedure is based on features of polygons being extracted in the data sets to be matched. Where image data are in raster form by nature, reference data for the outlined system can be in raster or in vector form. There do not exist any limitations in form of approximate values. The extraction of polygonal objects from image data is carried out by multiple segmentation. In order to evaluate the results of the chosen region-growing algorithm, several examinations are carried out. Merging of neighboured polygons with the same object class does the extraction of suitable polygons from GIS reference data. Within the framework of this thesis, German ATKIS data are used exclusively. Based on the theory of affine invariants of algebraic forms, features are developed which can be computed from geometric moments of raster and vector polygons. Alternatively, polygon features are derived from cross-weighted moment's invariants that can be obtained from geometric moments of raster and vector polygons in a similar way. Studies on the robustness of the features and their ability to discriminate similar objects are carried out by the use of synthetic and real data. A backtracking-depht-first tree search algorithm with unary and binary constraints obtains the matching of image and reference data. In order to formulate the constraints, an affine transformation is computed from the geometric moments for each pair. The procedure is based on the theory of standard positions. A closing verification step leads to a global affine transformation between image and reference system. The approximate transformation is individually refined with the IterativeClosestPoint algorithm. Based on the optimised affine transformation for each polygon pair, tie points are generated automatically on the borderline of the polygons. Based on a theoretical consideration, extensive studies on the achievable tie point accuracy were carried out with three synthetic and real data sets. The performance and robustness of the developed system under various input data is demonstrated by controlled application of disturbances.
