The difficult conditions for the required modelling of the topography in mountainous terrain have been considered.
In the Estergebirge mountains in the Bavarian Alps since the year 1994 a very dense network of gravity measurements, precision levelling, precise GPS height measurements and deflections of the vertical has been created, covering all height zones of the terrain. These measurements and their accuracies are described in this work. From levelling, gravity measurements and GPS measurements height anomalies and geoid heights have been determined, analyzed and compared to the german ECG97 geoid model. A precise modelling of the topographic attraction is described for gravity and the deflections of the vertical, based on a high resolution terrain model and a terrain survey of the very near zone of each data point. After the topographic reduction different disturbing bodies with anomalous densities have been detected, with typical characteristics for mountainous areas. Some of these bodies have been modelled taking into account various geophysical data. The models have been used in an adjustment to determine the densities of the topography and the disturbing bodies.
In the second part a statistical analysis of gravity disturbances from the Estergebirge and from other data sets from the Alps is carried out. Empirical signal covariance functions and spectral representations of signal power are shown. The comparison of the different data sets shows good agreement of signal properties. Using measurements in independent control points realistic errors for the continuous representation of the gravity disturbances have been obtained, depending on the density of data points. It is shown, that for high point densities the high frequent parts of the signal are still dominating the representation error, whereas errors of measurement and modelling play a minor role. The representation error computed for selected data point densities have been propagated to geoid errors and errors of spherical harmonic coefficients. The error volume is used as an intermediate step, assuming homogeneous signal properties all over the earth. By this approach it can be shown, that for a geoid error standard deviation of 1 cm the spacing of gravity measurements may not exceed about 5 km.Numéro de notice : 13161 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=54898 Réservation

[Termes IGN] pesanteur terrestreIndex. décimale : 30.40 Géodésie physique Résumé : (Auteur) In 1999, the ESA mission GOCE has been approved, the first satellite mission at all applying gradiometry. The gravity gradients will be observed with an accuracy at the mE-level, which enables the determination of the Earth gravity field with high accuracy. With GOCE, one achieves a geoid error of 1 cm at a spatial resolution of 100 km on the surface of the Earth resp. a gravity anomaly error of less than 1 mGal. Here we describe, how a satellite gradiometry mission works, which payload is absolutely necessary (e.g. accelerometers, star trackers, GPS) and what control systems are required. The formulas to analyse the observations are derived. The effect of the main error sources (e.g. misalignments, scale factor error, pointing error) are estimated and their spectral behaviour as well as their possible effect onto the mission goals are shown. Also the needed calibration strategies are discussed. Additionaly some aspects are addressed, which are important for the realisation of a gradiometer mission, especially for COCE: is a relativistic treatment needed, has one to distinguish between COM and COG, have the third derivatives of the potential to be used in the gradiometer equation, how has the angular velocity about the cross-track axis to be determined, where should a KALMAN-Filter be implemented or which analysis methods for the determination of the Earth gravity field are used ? Finally the wide range of applications for a global gravity field with high spatial resolution is mentioned. Beside geodesy (e.g. leveling with GPS), oceanography (by the combination with altimetry data), solid Earth physics (the gravitational potential as one of the few mirrors in the Earth's interior) and ice research benefit from the GOCE gravity field. Secondary goals are the investigation of sea surface variations and climate models. It provides a systematic overview of fundamental theories, geodetic reference systems, and spatial and terrestrial measurement methods, together with the respective modeling techniques. The third edition has been completely revised in order to adequately reflect the tremendous changes which have occured in geodesy in the last twenty years, where space techniques are now the predominante tool for positioning and gravity field determination. Establishment of geodetic control networks has followed these developments, with far-reaching consequences for applied geodesy. High data rates and improved accuracy have increased geodetic contributions to geodynamics research. The present state of geodesy is illustrated by selected examples of instruments and results of geodetic data processing. An extensive reference list supports further studies.
