[Termes IGN] système de référence mondialRésumé : (Auteur) Combinations of station coordinates and velocities from independent space-geodetic techniques have long been the standard method to realize robust global terrestrial reference frames (TRFs). In principle, the particular strengths of one observing method can compensate for weaknesses in others if the combination is properly constructed, suitable weights are found, and accurate co-location ties are available. More recently, the methodology has been extended to combine time-series of results at the normal equation level. This allows Earth orientation parameters (EOPs) to be included and aligned in a fully consistent way with the TRF. While the utility of such multi-technique combinations is generally recognized for the reference frame, the benefits for the EOPs are yet to be quantitatively assessed. In this contribution, which is a sequel to a recent paper on co-location ties (Ray and Altamimi in J Geod 79(4–5): 189–195, 2005), we have studied test combinations of very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) and Global Positioning System (GPS) time-series solutions to evaluate the effects on combined EOP measurements compared with geophysical excitations. One expects any effect to be small, considering that GPS dominates the polar motion estimates due to its relatively dense and uniform global network coverage, high precision, continuous daily sampling, and homogeneity, while VLBI alone observes UT1-UTC. Presently, although clearly desirable, we see no practical method to rigorously include the GPS estimates of length-of-day variations due to significant time-varying biases. Nevertheless, our results, which are the first of this type, indicate that more accurate polar motion from GPS contributes to improved UT1-UTC results from VLBI. The situation with combined polar motion is more complex. The VLBI data contribute directly only very slightly, if at all, with an impact that is probably affected by the weakness of the current VLBI networks (small size and sparseness) and the quality of local ties relating the VLBI and GPS frames. Instead, the VLBI polar motion information is used primarily in rotationally aligning the VLBI and GPS frames, thereby reducing the dependence on co-location tie information. Further research is needed to determine an optimal VLBI-GPS combination strategy that yields the highest quality EOP estimates. Improved local ties (including internal systematic effects within the techniques) will be critically important in such an effort. [Termes IGN] ondelette d'Abel-PoissonRésumé : (auteur) Potential fields are classically represented on the sphere using spherical harmonics. However,
this decomposition leads to numerical difficulties when data to be modelled are irregularly distributed or cover a regional zone. To overcome this drawback, we develop a new representation
of the magnetic and the gravity fields based on wavelet frames.
In this paper, we first describe how to build wavelet frames on the sphere. The chosen frames
are based on the Poisson multipole wavelets, which are of special interest for geophysical
modelling, since their scaling parameter is linked to the multipole depth (Holschneider et al.).
The implementation of wavelet frames results from a discretization of the continuous wavelet
transform in space and scale. We also build different frames using two kinds of spherical meshes
and various scale sequences. We then validate the mathematical method through simple fits of
scalar functions on the sphere, named ‘scalar models’. Moreover, we propose magnetic and
gravity models, referred to as ‘vectorial models’, taking into account geophysical constraints.
We then discuss the representation of the Earth’s magnetic and gravity fields from data regularly
or irregularly distributed. Comparisons of the obtained wavelet models with the initial spherical
harmonic models point out the advantages of wavelet modelling when the used magnetic or
gravity data are sparsely distributed or cover just a very local zone.Numéro de notice : A2005-615 Affiliation des auteurs : LAREG+Ext (1991-2011) Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1111/j.1365-246X.2005.02754.x Date de publication en ligne : 01/12/2005 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-246X.2005.02754.x Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=102897

[Termes IGN] saisonRésumé : (Auteur) An efficient method is proposed for the analysis of atmospheric pressure effects on gravity variations. It processes gravity variations and pressure signals using an orthogonal filter bank derived from high-degree Daubechies wavelets. The method introduces the atmospheric pressure admittance, which is both time- and frequency-dependent, and thus provides more information about when and how the frequency components in the pressure signal influence gravity variations. We demonstrate the efficiency of the wavelet method by applying it to observations from the Wuhan (China) superconducting gravimeter station. The analysis of gravity and pressure signals in 14 sub-bands with different bandwidths covering a frequency range from 0.176 to 720cpd (cycles per day) reveals that local atmospheric pressure fluctuations start to induce obvious effects on gravity variations in the seismic band 0.52-1.04 mHz (periods 16 to 32 min) and highly cor-relate with gravity variation in the long-period seismic mode band 0.26-0.52 mHz (periods 32-64 min). The harmonics of solar heating-induced atmospheric tides play a leading role in interfering with the variation of gravity residuals in the frequency band 0.704-11.25 cpd (periods 128 min to 1.42 day). Local atmospheric pressure effects on gravity variation are very strong in the frequency band 0.176-0.704cpd (periods 1.42-5.69 day). Accurately filtering quarter-diurnal tides into a narrow band further demonstrates the efficiency of the wavelet method. After removing secular gravity changes and long-period atmospheric pressure variations, we show that there are obvious variations of local pressure admittance on time scales of hours to days. We also reveal seasonal variability of pressure admittances in the band 0. 176-0.352 cpd (periods 2.84-5.69 day) after removing the effects of solar heating atmospheric tides.
