[Termes IGN] Sinkiang (Chine)Résumé : (auteur) On the basis of the spectral shape of thermal infrared (TIR) emissivity for sandy land, a remote sensing sand index called the sand differential emissivity index (SDEI) is proposed in this article to simply and conveniently detect sandy land over large areas. The SDEI is evaluated on ground, airborne, and spaceborne thermal emissivity data, and it shows good characterization of sandy land and performs better in sandy land identification than two previous indices. The SDEI was also evaluated in the transition zones of China’s four mega-sandy lands and was applied to long-term land surface emissivity to obtain the spatial distribution and variation in China’s sandy land from 2000 to 2016. The findings showed that a mean accuracy of 96% and a mean kappa coefficient of 0.83 were obtained in the transition zones, and the sandy land in the transition zone exhibited a decreasing trend over the past 17 years and a significant decline in the Mu Us sandy land. Meanwhile, the sandy land area in China decreased by 3.6×104 km 2 (1.53%) by the end of 2016 compared with that in early 2000. [Termes IGN] température au solRésumé : (auteur) Underground coal fires can increase surface temperature, cause surface cracks and collapse, and release poisonous and harmful gases, which significantly harm the ecological environment and humans. Traditional methods of extracting coal fires, such as global threshold, K-mean and active contour model, usually produce many false alarms. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved active contour model by introducing the distinguishing energies of coal fires and others into the traditional active contour model. Taking Urumqi, Xinjiang, China as the research area, coal fires are detected from Landsat-8 satellite and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) data. The results show that the proposed method can eliminate many false alarms compared with some traditional methods, and achieve detection of small-area coal fires by referring field survey data. More importantly, the results obtained from UAV data can help identify not only burning coal fires but also potential underground coal fires. This paper provides an efficient method for high-precision coal fire detection and strong technical support for reducing environmental pollution and coal energy use. [Termes IGN] teneur en eau de la végétationRésumé : (Auteur) The vegetation water content (VWC) quantitative is useful for monitoring vegetation physiological growth. The relationship between VWC and vegetation water indices was analyzed. The optimal estimation model was established. The results show that: (1) Absorption bands primarily fell within 380 to 400 nm, 680 to 720 nm, 1420 to 1450 nm, 1900 to 1940 nm, and 2450 to 2500 nm; (2) comparing published vegetation water indices and developed vegetation indices, it showed that DVI(1712,1382), NDSI(2201,1870) and RSI(2259,1870) had a better correlation with VWC than the published vegetation water; and (3) NDSI(2201,1870) and RSI(2259,1870) performed well in estimating vegetation water content, DVI(1712,1382) had a rough estimate of its water content. Moreover, the linear combination of DVI(1712,1382), NDSI(2201,1870) and RSI(2259,1870) improved the estimation of VWC. The best vegetation indices for estimating VWC were found to be the linear combination of DVI(1712,1382), NDSI(2201,1870) and RSI(2259,1870) in arid area of northwestern China. [Termes IGN] Sinkiang (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) This study investigates the 3 July 2015 (Mw=6.4) earthquake that affected Pishan County in Xinjiang, China. Using Synthetic Aperture Radar interferometry (InSAR), we mapped the near-field surface displacement of this event to better characterize the seismic source parameters. The inverted results suggest that a conjugate fault system could produce very similar deformation patterns as those observed in both ascending and descending InSAR observations, and the south-dipping fault is selected as the optimal fault responsible for the event. The selected fault was concentrated on a thrust fault with a strike of 112°, a dip of 25° and an average rake angle of 89°. The InSAR analysis reveals a fragmentation of the Western Kunlun north margin fault, and the overall deformation of the seismogenic fault is characterized by thrust motion, which is consistent with the transpressional tectonic characteristics of the major faults in this region. [Termes IGN] zone arideRésumé : (auteur) The quantitative study of the arid Lop Nur lake basin is significant to investigate the environmental changes in the arid area of northwestern China and extremely arid areas of Eurasia in general. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery, with its penetration capability and advantages for studying geological phenomena on a large spatial scale, is very suitable for analyzing the subsurface of the Lop Nur area. Based on the full polarimetric ALOS PALSAR data and field investigation, it was found that the two-layer scattering mechanism of the dry sediments is very special and complex. The scattering mechanism in the bright strips is more complex than that in the gray strips according to the co-polarization correlation analysis. The experimental results show that the Cloude–Pottier decomposition method is more appropriate for this area. Moreover, the polarimetric characteristics and Cloude-Pottier decomposition results are very important for the study of the past climatic change in Lop Nur area. In conclusion, full polarimetric SAR data and target decomposition theory provide a new technique for obtaining information and quantitatively studying the subsurface characteristics of arid areas.
