[Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) Automatically identifying potential congestion spots in cities has significant practical implications for efficient urban development and management. It requires the ability to examine the relationships between urban built environment features and traffic congestion situations. This article presents a novel and effective approach for achieving the task based on a machine‐learning technique and publicly available street‐view imagery and point‐of‐interest (POI) data. The proposed multiple‐graph‐based convolutional network architecture can: (a) extract essential urban built environment features from street‐view imagery and neighboring POIs; (b) model the spatial dependencies between traffic congestion on road networks via graph convolution; and (c) evaluate the risk level of road intersections to emerging congestion situations based on local built environment features. We apply the model to Wuhan in China, and predict the potential congestion spots across the city. The results confirm that the model prediction is highly consistent (about 85.5%) when compared to the ground‐truth data based on traffic indices derived from a big taxi GPS trajectory dataset. This research enhances the understanding of traffic congestion situations under various geographic, societal, and economic contexts based on easily accessible road, street‐view, and POI datasets at large spatiotemporal scales. The traditional feature extraction method has slow speed and low efficiency and only achieves the boundary feature points. Hence, the point cloud feature regularization is proposed to obtain the boundary lines based on the fast extraction of feature points in this article. First, an improved $k$ - $d$ tree method is used to search the $k$ neighbors of sampling point. Then, the sampling point and its $k$ neighbors are used as the reference points set to fit a microcut plane and project to the plane. The local coordinate system is established on the microcut plane to convert 3-D into 2-D. The boundary feature points are identified by judging criterion of field force and then are sorted and connected according to the vector deflected angle and distance. Finally, the boundary lines are smoothed by the improved cubic B-spline fitting method. Experiments show that the proposed method can extract the boundary feature points quickly and efficiently, and the mean error of boundary lines is 0.0674 mm and the standard deviation is 0.0346 mm, which has high precision. This proposed method was also successfully applied to feature extraction and boundary fitting of Xinyi teaching building of the Wuhan University of Technology. Since mixed pixels are a characteristic of medium resolution images such as Landsat, when used for the classification of urban areas, due to changes in urban ground cover within a pixel, Multiple Endmember Spectral Mixture Analysis (MESMA) together with Super-Resolution Mapping (SRM) are employed to derive class fractions to generate classification maps at a higher spatial resolution using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) predicted Wavelet method. Landsat images over the two cities for a 30-year period, are classified in terms of vegetation, buildings, soil and water. The classifications are then processed using Indifrag software to assess the levels of fragmentation caused by changes in the areas of buildings, vegetation, water and soil over the 30 years. The extents of fragmentation of vegetation, buildings, water and soil for the two cities are compared, while the percentages of vegetation are compared with recommended percentages of green space for urban areas for the benefit of health and well-being of inhabitants. Changes in Ecosystem Service Values (ESVs) resulting from the urbanization have been assessed for Wuhan and Sydney. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for urban areas are being assessed by researchers to better understand how to achieve the sustainability of cities. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Many studies are in an effort to explore urban spatial structure, and urban functional regions have become the subject of increasing attention among planners, engineers and public officials. Attempts have been made to identify urban functional regions using high spatial resolution (HSR) remote sensing images and extensive geo-data. However, the research scale and throughput have also been limited by the accessibility of HSR remote sensing data. Recently, big geo-data are becoming increasingly popular for urban studies since research is still accessible and objective with regard to the use of these data. This study aims to build a novel framework to provide an alternative solution for sensing urban spatial structure and discovering urban functional regions based on emerging geo-data – points of interest (POIs) data and an embedding learning method in the natural language processing (NLP) field. We started by constructing the intraurban functional corpus using a center-context pairs-based approach. A word embeddings representation model for training that corpus was used to extract multiprototype vectors in the second step, and the last step aggregated the functional parcels based on an introduced spatial clustering method, hierarchical density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (HDBSCAN). The clustering results suggested that our proposed framework used in this study is capable of discovering the utilization of urban space with a reasonable level of accuracy. The limitation and potential improvement of the proposed framework are also discussed. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation model-based sub-pixel mapping (SPM) method is an alternative way to solve the ill-posed SPM problem. The MAP estimation model has been proven to be an effective SPM approach and has been extensively developed over the past few years, as a result of its effective regularization capability that comes from the spatial regularization model. However, various spatial regularization models do not always truly reflect the detailed spatial distribution in a real situation, and the over-smoothing effect of the spatial regularization model always tends to efface the detailed structural information. In this article, under the scenario of time-series observation by remote sensing imagery, the joint spectral–spatial–temporal MAP-based (SST_MAP) model for SPM is proposed. In SST_MAP, a newly developed temporal regularization model is added to the MAP model, based on the prerequisite for a temporally close fine image covering the same study region. This available fine image can provide the specific spatial structures most closely conforming to the ground truth for a more precise constraint, thereby reducing the over-smoothing effect. Furthermore, the three dimensions are mutually balanced and mutually constrained, to reach an equilibrium point and achieve restoration of both smooth areas for the homogeneous land-cover classes and a detailed structure for the heterogeneous land-cover classes. Four experiments were designed to validate the proposed SST_MAP: three synthetic-image experiments and one real-image experiment. The restoration results confirm the superiority of the proposed SST_MAP model. Notably, under the background of time-series observation, SST_MAP provides an alternative way of land-cover change detection (LCCD), achieving both detailed spatial-scale and high-frequency temporal LCCD observation for the study case of urbanization analysis within the city of Wuhan in China.
