[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) In recent years, pluvial floods caused by extreme rainfall events have occurred frequently. Especially in urban areas, they lead to serious damages and endanger the citizens’ safety. Therefore, real-time information about such events is desirable. With the increasing popularity of social media platforms, such as Twitter or Instagram, information provided by voluntary users becomes a valuable source for emergency response. Many applications have been built for disaster detection and flood mapping using crowdsourcing. Most of the applications so far have merely used keyword filtering or classical language processing methods to identify disaster relevant documents based on user generated texts. As the reliability of social media information is often under criticism, the precision of information retrieval plays a significant role for further analyses. Thus, in this paper, high quality eyewitnesses of rainfall and flooding events are retrieved from social media by applying deep learning approaches on user generated texts and photos. Subsequently, events are detected through spatiotemporal clustering and visualized together with these high quality eyewitnesses in a web map application. Analyses and case studies are conducted during flooding events in Paris, London and Berlin. [Termes IGN] zone sinistréeRésumé : (Auteur) Context : In the Mediterranean area, different post-fire management strategies are used for coppices of resprouting species to promote a more regular forest structure, enhance plant growth, and reduce fire risk. However, the effects of these management treatments on forest-associated fauna are unknown, which in turn could be limiting their beneficial effects.
Aims : The aim of this work was to determine whether forest management of a recently burned area dominated by a vigorous resprouting tree species (Arbutus unedo L.) affects ant communities.
Methods : Ant communities, sampled using pitfall traps, were examined from unmanaged and selective thinning coppices of A. unedo. Ants are here used as bioindicators of ecosystem health and surrogates for other animal groups.
Results : Very limited effects of these post-fire management strategies on the structure and composition of ant communities were found. The lack of effects could be due to the reported small changes in physical conditions among treatments; or either, the most sensitive ant species to these post-fire management treatments might be the same ones affected by fire and, consequently, the ant species that would potentially be affected most were no longer in the study area.
Conclusion : The lack of any significant effects caused by these post-fire management practices on the associated fauna of A. unedo coppices points out the suitability of these treatments in these circumstances.

[Termes IGN] zone sinistréeRésumé : (Auteur) Fast-Responder is a data dissemination concept and research prototype designed to meet the needs of first responders to access recent remote sensing information for disaster response. It achieves fast performance by unique system trade-offs centered on a core concept called Fast-Earth, a geospatially-organized cache. Whereas traditional databases store images by collection time, requiring long searches and slow downloads, Fast-Earth subdivides the earth into small regions called plats affixed size enabling rapid look-up and download. Recent data can be indexed rapidly in about 10 minutes/terabyte. With the mobile application, FastResponder, Smartphone users can use a rapid Fast-Earth look-up to discover layers of data, download small chips, and flicker multiple image layers in less than a minute. Our fast rubble detection algorithm applied at the server enhances mono-temporal post-event optical imagery in less than one second/plat. We demonstrate the end-to-end system with remote sensing data from the 2010 Haiti earthquake. [Termes IGN] zone sinistréeRésumé : (Auteur) This work proposes a nighttime flood mapping method for Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (modis) data. Brightness temperatures at 3.9 um, and BT11 um channels (BT 3.9, and BT 11, respectively) and differences of brightness temperatures between 3.9 um and 4.0 um, and between 11 um and 12 um (BT 3.9-BT 4.0, and BT 11- BT 12, respectively) are used to identify nighttime water pixels by a support vector machines (SVM) classifier. Prominent flood locations are detected by a change detection process using a reference water-land map. To test the effectiveness of the proposed method, two flood cases caused by heavy rains were chosen as trial scenarios. The nighttime mapping results are validated with the flood maps, which are obtained from the visual interpretation based on the daytime flood identification results. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is effective for the delineation of inundated areas with standing water during the nighttime.
