[Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) For three-parameter datum transformations to be applied rigorously, geodetic coordinates on the first ellipsoid need to be converted to Cartesian coordinates before application of the shifts, then converted to geodetic coordinates on the second ellipsoid. The Standard Molodensky method of datum transformation is more direct but is inexact. It also fails to reproduce the original coordinates when applied forward and back. However, this paper shows a pattern of proportionality between the misclosures and the errors in the forward approximations. This gives rise to a new method of computing the transformations, best described as “Standard Molodensky in two stages with applied misclosures” (SMITSWAM). The method is shown to be more than 1600 times more accurate than Standard Molodensky, coming close to the accuracy of the rigorous approach. SMITSWAM is also shown to be around 48% faster than the traditional form of the rigorous method which uses iteration. [Vedettes matières IGN] Traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (auteur) While producing large-scale larger than 1:2000 maps in cities or towns, the obstruction from buildings leads to difficult and heavy tasks of measuring mapping control points. In order to avoid measuring the mapping control points and shorten the time of fieldwork, in this paper, a quick mapping method is proposed. This method adjusts many free blocks of surveys together, and transforms the points from all free blocks of surveys into the same coordinate system. The entire surveying area is divided into many free blocks, and connection points are set on the boundaries between free blocks. An independent coordinate system of every free block is established via completely free station technology, and the coordinates of the connection points, detail points and control points in every free block in the corresponding independent coordinate systems are obtained based on poly-directional open traverses. Error equations are established based on connection points, which are determined together to obtain the transformation parameters. All points are transformed from the independent coordinate systems to a transitional coordinate system via the transformation parameters. Several control points are then measured by GPS in a geodetic coordinate system. All the points can then be transformed from the transitional coordinate system to the geodetic coordinate system. In this paper, the implementation process and mathematical formulas of the new method are presented in detail, and the formula to estimate the precision of surveys is given. An example has demonstrated that the precision of using the new method could meet large-scale mapping needs. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) This research introduces and tests a new masking technique for sensitive point-based geospatial data. The goal of masking is to allow data to be used for general measurements of spatial distributions, but to not permit the matching of points with their true underlying observations, usually street addresses, in order to protect identity and privacy. The proposed method first converts coordinates to the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), then uses digit switching to mask coordinates. This permits encryption at five spatial levels of precision, equivalent to 1, 10, 100, 1000, and 10,000 m. Of the 1.3M possible digit switching combinations, one is chosen that minimizes the difference between the aggregate descriptive spatial statistics for the point set as a whole between the masked and the unmasked data. Most heavily weighted in the selection is the nearest neighbor statistic, a measure of clustering in the distribution. The masking method was implemented for point sets within a single MGRS cell square using NGA’s GEOTRANS software and new custom C language code, with both forward and inverse algorithms. The forward masking saves the translation code in a separate file without which the inversion is practically impossible, meaning that the masked data can be offered publicly. Four test point distributions were used to show the method in action. The method appears to offer new possibilities for the protection of sensitive geospatial data.
