[Termes IGN] XMLRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a new, streamlined, two-step geographic visual analytics (GVA) workflow for efficient data storage and access based on a native web XML database called Tree lank coupled with a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) graphical user interface for visualization. This new storage framework promises better scalability with rapidly growing datasets available on the Internet, while also reducing data access and updating delays for collaborative GVA environments. Both improve interactivity and flexibility from an end-user perspective. The proposed framework relies on a RES 1-based web interface providing scalable and spatio-temporal read-write access to complex spatio-tem-poral datasets of structured, semi-structured, or unstructured data. The clean separation of client and server at the HTTP web layer assures backward compatibility and better extensibility. We discuss the proposed framework and apply it on a prototype implementation employing world debt data. The excellent compression ratio of SVG as well as its fast delivery to end users are encouraging and suggest important steps have been made towards dynamic, highly interactive, and collaborative geovisual analytics environments. [Termes IGN] XMLRésumé : (Auteur) Earth science research and applications usually use Distributed Geospatial Information Processing (DGIP) services and powerful computing capabilities to extract information and knowledge from large volumes of distributed geospatial data. Conceptually, such processing can be abstracted into a logical model that utilizes geospatial domain knowledge to produce new geospatial products. Using this idea, the geo-tree concept and the proposed geospatial Abstract Information Model (AIM) have been used to develop a Grid workflow engine complying with geospatial standards and the Business Process Execution Language. Upon a user's request, the engine generates virtual geospatial data/information/knowledge products from existing DGIP data and services. This article details how to (1) define and describe the AIM in XML format, (2) describe the process logically with an AIM, including the geospatial semantic logic, (3) conceptually describe the process of producing a particular geospatial product step by step from raw geospatial data, (4) instantiate AIM as a concrete Grid-service workflow by selecting the optimal service instances and data sets, and (5) design a Grid workflow engine to execute the concrete workflows to produce geospatial products. To verify the advantages and applicability of this Grid-enabled virtual geospatial product system, its performance is evaluated, and a sample application is provided. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Over the last few years, the geo-industry has become increasingly aware that the world is a 3D place. In the past, cities, landscapes, etc. were always displayed as 2D chart representations. The best 3D that could be offered was a DTM of heights or depths. At the other end of the spectrum, there have always been those who did cityscaping and landscaping. Although they viewed the world as a 3D place, their models were anchored in the real world and, as such , could not be combined with other sorts of information. They were defined as purely graphical or geometrical models, thereby ignoring semantics and topology. CityGML is an attempt to resolve these aspects in a coherent way.
