[Termes IGN] traitement répartiRésumé : (Auteur) Service-Oriented Architectures can be used as a framework for enabling distributed geographic information processing (DGIP). The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has published several standards for services. These can be composed into service chains that support the execution of workflows constituting complex DGIP applications. In this paper, we introduce a basic architecture and building blocks for building DGIP applications based on service chains. We investigate the issues arising from the composition of OGC services into such service chains. We study various architectural patterns in order to guide application developers in their task of implementing DGIP applications based on service chains. More specifically, we focus on the control flow and data flow patterns in the execution of a workflow. These issues are illustrated with an example from the domain of risk management - a forest fire risk mapping scenario. [Termes IGN] Web Processing ServiceRésumé : (Auteur) The Open Geospatial Consortium Web Processing Service specification is intended as a solution for creating and distributing web-based functions. This paper seeks to evaluate the WPS specification with respect to feasibility and utility, to identify areas for improvement, and to provide a demonstration implementation approach including a client-side tool and a server-side wrapping technique for exposing geoprocessing functionality through WPS using an asynchronous approach. Challenges with the WPS specification, some of which are already being addressed in the newest WPS revisions, are discussed together with proposed solutions. Several potential enhancements to the WPS proposal are introduced and considered, including a mechanism to guide client applications in prompting for correct data and a means to list the data available on a server. [Termes IGN] Web Map ServiceRésumé : (Auteur) The Kalypso project encompasses a rich environment for environmental and water resources modeling. Workflow-based pre- and post-processing functions allow for preparing input data for computation modules and analyzing computational results in a GIS context. A precipitation-runoff model, a one-dimensional water surface profile model and a model for unsteady coupled 1D/2D flows for surface waters are distributed as freeware with Kalypso as well. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Over the last few years, the geo-industry has become increasingly aware that the world is a 3D place. In the past, cities, landscapes, etc. were always displayed as 2D chart representations. The best 3D that could be offered was a DTM of heights or depths. At the other end of the spectrum, there have always been those who did cityscaping and landscaping. Although they viewed the world as a 3D place, their models were anchored in the real world and, as such , could not be combined with other sorts of information. They were defined as purely graphical or geometrical models, thereby ignoring semantics and topology. CityGML is an attempt to resolve these aspects in a coherent way.
