[Termes IGN] texturageRésumé : (Auteur) Thermal image data are widely used to assess the insulation quality of buildings and to detect thermal leakages. In our approach, we merge terrestrial thermal image data and 3D point clouds to perform thermal texture mapping for building facades. Since geo-referencing data of a hand-held thermal camera is usually not available in such applications, registration between thermal images and a 3D point cloud (for instance generated from RGB image data by structure-from-motion techniques) is essential. In our approach, thermal image data registration is conducted in four steps: First, another point cloud is generated from the thermal image data. Next, a coarse registration between thermal point cloud and RGB point cloud is performed using the fast global registration (FGR) algorithm. The best corresponding thermal-RGB image pairs are acquired by picking up the lowest Euclidean distance between the exterior orientation parameters of thermal images and transformed exterior orientation parameters of RGB images. Subsequently, radiation-invariant feature transform (RIFT), normalized barycentric coordinate system (NBCS) and random sample consensus (RANSAC) are employed to extract reliable matching features on thermal-RGB image pairs. Afterwards, a fine registration is performed by mono-plotting of the RGB image, followed by image resection of the thermal image. Finally, in terms of texture mapping algorithms, in order to remove the blur effects caused by small misalignments for different candidate images, a global image pose refinement approach, which aims to minimize the temperature disagreements provided by different images for the same object points, is proposed. In addition, in order to ensure high geometric and radiant accuracy, camera calibrations are performed. Experiments showed that the proposed method could not only achieve high geometric registration accuracy, but also provide a good radiometric accuracy with RMSE lower than 1.5 °C. [Termes IGN] texturageRésumé : (auteur) Texture mapping generates photorealistic representations of three‐dimensional (3D) geometric objects and enhances the spatial perception of areas of interest. Over the past two decades, even though various approaches for 3D urban models have been investigated, their use has been limited because of the lack of spatial accuracy, details, and the complex processes. It is difficult to maintain highly detailed texture information without using a hybrid of aerial image and ground‐based imaging techniques, which are costly. Furthermore, it is hard to develop a fully automated process for 3D urban mapping that achieves high spatial accuracy. With regard to the issues, this research aims to develop a semi‐automated process for 3D building models that would help image‐based approaches. It helps acquire qualified texture information and improve the appearance of building façades in a large city. In particular, this research first investigates an optimal overlap of consecutive aerial images that generates sufficient information to texture each façade, thus making this process more cost‐effective. Second, this research develops an application to semi‐automatically build 3D buildings and textured 3D buildings. The application is developed in C++. The textured 3D building models are quantitatively and qualitatively assessed to determine the usability of the semi‐automated process. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) This study proposes a new method for repeated structure detection and the three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of building façades from mobile lidar data. Firstly, the building façade is divided and unrolled to simplify the complex façade structures, improving the automation of structure detection and building reconstruction. Subsequently, the unrolled façade is decomposed into tiles by analyzing the repeated structures. Tiles with strong similarities are matched and merged to restore the imperfect façade points. Based on the restored points and repeated structures, a 3D building façade can be reconstructed with a complete structure and fine detail. An analysis is conducted to compare the constructed 3D model with the lidar points of actual façade. The results of this analysis demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively deal with missing areas caused by occlusion, viewpoint limitation, and uneven point density, as well as realizing the highly complete 3D reconstruction of a building façade.
