[Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Auteur) Information on the quantity and spatial distribution of canopy physiological and biochemical components is of importance for the study of nutrient cycles, productivity, vegetation stress and, more recently, in driving ecosystem models. In this context, remote sensing can play a unique and essential role because of its ability to acquire synoptic information at different time and space scales. This paper presents parts of a two-year field and laboratory study with the new airborne hyperspectral sensor, the Airborne Visible near Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIS), over a test site in the Bavarian Alpine foothills, Germany (48' 8'N, 11°17' E ). The 80-band AVIS was developed at the Department for Earth and Environmental Sciences of the LudwigMaximiliansUniversity Munich and records the 550-1000 mn spectral range. Using this system, 18 hyperspectral datasets were collected between April and September of 1999 and 2000. Weekly measurements of several plant parameters (height, biomass, leaf chlorophyll content, leaf nitrogen content) were carried out during these time periods on three (1999) and six (2000) fields of winter wheat, whereby two different cultivars were investigated in 2000. After system correction and calibration, the hyperspectral data were atmospherically corrected and calibrated to reflectance. The resulting spectra were analysed for their chemical compounds. The statistical analysis was carried out using the Chlorophyll Absorption Integral (CAI) in comparison to established indices: Optimized Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (OSAVI) and hyperspectral Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (hNDVI). Both the chlorophyll and nitrogen content of the leaves showed good correlations with CAI on a field mean basis. These results as well as two-dimensional information on these parameters are presented to provide information about the spatial heterogeneity within a field. [Termes IGN] précision de la classificationRésumé : (Auteur) Markov random fields (MRFs) provide a useful and theoretically well-established tool for integrating temporal contextual information into the classification process. In particular, when dealing with a sequence of temporal images, the usual MRF-based approach consists in adopting a "cascade" scheme, i.e., in propagating the temporal information from the current image to the next one of the sequence. The simplicity of the cascade scheme makes it attractive ; on the other hand, it does not fully exploit the temporal information available in a sequence of temporal images. In this paper, a "mutual" MRF approach is proposed that aims at improving both the accuracy and the reliability of the classification process by means of a better exploitation of the temporal information. It involves carrying out a bidirectional exchange of the temporal information between the defined single-time MRF models of consecutive images. A difficult issue related to MRFs is the determination of the MRF model parameters that weight the energy terms related to the available information sources. To solve this problem, we propose a simple and fast method based on the concept of "minimum perturbation" and implemented with the pseudo-inverse technique for the minimization of the sum of squared errors. Experimental results on a multitemporal dataset made up of two multisensor (Landsat Thematic Mapper and European Remote Sensing 1 synthetic aperture radar) images are reported. The results obtained by the proposed "mutual" approach show a clear improvement in terms of classification accuracy over those yielded by a reference MRF-based classifier. The presented method to automatically estimate the MRF parameters yielded significant results that make it an attractive alternative to the usual trial-and-error search procedure. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) Thirteen panchromatic (Pan) and multiband (XS) Ikonos Geoproduct images over seven study sites with various environments and terrain were tested using different cartographic data and accuracies with a 3D parametric model developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, Natural Resources Canada. The objectives of this study were to define the relationship between the final accuracy and the number and accuracy of input data, to track error propagation during the full geometric correction process (bundle adjustment and orthorectification), and to advise on the applicability of the model in operational environments.
When ground control points (GCPs) have an accuracy poorer than 3 m, 20 GGPs over the entire image are a good compromise to obtain a 3- to 4-m accuracy in the bundle adjustment. When GCP accuracy is better than 1 m, ten GCPs are enough to decrease the bundle adjustment error of either panchromatic or multiband images to 2 to 3 m. Because GGP residuals reflect the input data errors (map and/or plotting), these errors did not propagate through the 3D parametric model, and the internal accuracy of the geometric model is thus better (around a pixel or less).
Quantitative and qualitative evaluations of orthoimages were thus performed with either independent check points or overlaid digital vector files. Generally, the measured errors confirmed the predicted errors or were even slightly better, and a 2- to 4-m positioning accuracy was achieved for the orthoimages depending upon the elevation accuracy (DEM and grid spacing). To achieve a better final positioning accuracy, such as 1 m, a DEM with an accuracy of 1 to 2 m and with a fine grid spacing is required, in addition to welldefined GCPs with an accuracy of 1 m.Numéro de notice : A2003-001 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : 10.14358/PERS.69.1.43 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.14358/PERS.69.1.43 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22299

[Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (Auteur) Land Cover Map 2000 (LCM2000) is a thematic classification of satellite image data covering the entire United Kingdom. The map updates and substantially upgrades the Land Cover Map of Great Britain (LCMGB), made in 1990-92. This paper outlines the character of the map through a description of its specification, production and outputs. The paper is aimed at users of LCM2000 and derived data who need to understand more of the map and its characteristics. The paper also outlines plans for making data available to researchers and applied users. The most important development in LCM2000 was the spectral segmentation of images to generate vector land parcels. Land cover was then identified by the spectral classification of the image data in these parcels. Classification used specially developed procedures which exploited known spatial, spectral and contextual characteristics of land cover. The resultant GIS incorporates, within its vector structure, detailed attribute data which record parcel-based land cover, plus information on class probabilities, data on withinparcel heterogeneity, information on landscape structure and context, cover information from LCMGB, together with a record of each parcel's processing history.
