[Termes IGN] forêtRésumé : (Auteur) Forest encroachment (FE) is a problem in Andaman and Nicobar Islands (ANI) in India for environment and planning. Small gaps created in the forest slowly expand its periphery disturbing the biodiversity. Therefore, intrusion of poachers, slash and burn and other factors causing FE must be carefully detected and monitored. Remote sensing offers a great opportunity to accomplish this task because of its synoptic view. Conventional classification methods with remotely sensed images are problematic because of small size of FE and mixed landcover composition. This study presents an application of super-resolution mapping (SRM) based on Markov random field for detection of FE using ASTER (15 m) images. The SRM results were validated using multispectral IRS LISS-IV (5.8 m) image. Non-contiguous FE patches of various sizes and shapes are characterized using the spatial contextual information. The novelty of this approach lies in the identification and separability of small FE pockets which could not be achieved with pixel-based maximum likelihood classifier (MLC). The SRM parameters were optimized and found comparable to previous studies. Classification accuracy obtained with SRM at scale factor 3 is κ = 0.62 that is superior to accuracy of MLC (κ = 0.51). SRM is a promising tool for detection and monitoring of FE at Rutland Island in ANI, India. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) A 1.5-μm all-fiber coherent Doppler lidar system for wind sensing was developed and characterized. The system design and implementation is presented. The system employs a 20-kHz pulse repetition rate transmitter and samples return signals at 400 MHz. A field-programmable gate array is programmed to generate and accumulate real-time periodograms representing average power spectra of the Doppler shifted echo from a series of more than 60 range gates, where each range gate is 48 m. The accumulated periodograms are streamed to a host computer for subsequent processing to yield the line-of-sight wind velocity. Wind velocity estimates with a precision value of 0.08 m/s can be made under nominal aerosol loading and nominal atmospheric turbulence conditions for ranges up to 3 km. Wind velocities and aerosol profiles are obtained while scanning the pointing direction of the lidar, thus producing both horizontal and vertical representations of the wind vectors. [Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (auteur) Current research into the fusion of hyperspectral imagery (HI) and full waveform LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) has relied on first processing the full waveform LiDAR (FWL) data to a set of discrete returns before merging because the data structure and sampling interval of HI and FWL are distinctly different. However, additional information about target properties can potentially be recovered if the waveform shape is preserved in the fusion process. This paper proposes a “voxelization” method to register FWL data to HI by dividing the waveform data into voxels, and then synthesizing all waveforms which intersect a voxel column into one three-dimensional superposition waveform: the synthesized waveform (SWF). A vertical energy distribution coefficients (VEDC) feature is proposed for extracting features from SWF, and then the SWF and HI are fused to form a complete feature space for classification. A pairwise classifier was adapted and completed using both Maximum Likelihood and Support Vector Machine classifiers for the combined SWF/HI features. Results show that this method of generating SWF from FWL data can effectively preserve information from the original waveforms, and the fusion of SWF and HI enhanced land cover classification compared to both using either data set alone or the merging of HI with a discrete LiDAR return point cloud. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) The character of the topocentric components in ETRF2000(R08) from the Polish ASG-EUPOS system was analysed using skewness and kurtosis derived from the data probability density function. The data from 115 permanent GPS stations with a time span of more than 5 years were used. The main goal of this research was to show that any unmodelled systematics can disrupt the results. The obtained median values of skewness and kurtosis clearly indicate the discrepancies between the assumed normality of the GPS time series distribution and the reality, mainly due to stochastic and/or deterministic parts that are still present in the data. The quadratic relationship between skewness and kurtosis was developed with the empirically determined constants. The noise analysis with the Maximum Likelihood Estimation was also performed with the assumptions of white and white plus power-law noise. The estimated spectral indices for power law noises are close to −1 (flicker noise). The uncertainties of the intraplate velocities with white and white plus power law noise assumptions were calculated. It was shown that these uncertainties can be underestimated up to 5 mm/year. Additionally we made 1000 simulation which were aimed at showing how the values of skewness and kurtosis are changed when some mismodelled part of the data remains in the time series. We assumed different values of trend (1 and 6 mm/year), seasonal amplitudes (1 and 6 mm) and offsets (3 and 10 mm) with flicker noise of 1 mm amplitude to see how the metrics we use are biased.
