[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) The Earth's topography, including vegetation and human-made features, reduced to a virtual 3-D representation is a key geographic layer for any extended development or risk management project. Processed from multiple aerial images or from airborne lidar systems, the 3-D topography is first represented as a point cloud. This paper deals with the generation of digital terrain models (DTMs) in natural landscapes. We present a global methodology for estimating the terrain height by deriving a predictive filter paradigm. Under the assumption that the terrain topography (elevation and slope) is regular in a neighboring system, a predictive filter combines linearly the predicted topographic values and the effective measured values. In this paper, such a filter is applied to 3-D lidar data which are known to be of high elevation accuracy. The algorithm generates an adaptive local geometry wherein the elevation distribution of the point cloud is analyzed. Since local terrain elevations depend on the local slope, a predictive filter is first applied on the slopes and then on the terrain elevations. The algorithm propagates through the point cloud following specific rules in order to optimize the probability of computing areas containing terrain points. Considered as an initial surface, the previous DTM is finally regularized in a Bayesian framework. Our approach is based on the definition of an energy function that manages the evolution of a terrain surface. The energy is designed as a compromise between a data attraction term and a regularization term. The minimum of this energy corresponds to the final terrain surface. The methodology is discussed, and some conclusive results are presented on vegetated mountainous areas. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) Partial knowledge about geospatial categories is important for practical use of ontologies in the geospatial domain. Degree of overlaps between geospatial categories, especially those based on geospatial actions concepts and geospatial enitity concepts, need to be specified in ontologies. Conventional geospatial ontologies do not enable specification of such information, and this presents difficulties in ontology reasoning for practical purposes. We present a framework to encode probabilistic information in geospatial ontologies based on the BayesOWL approach. The approach enables rich inferences such as most similar concepts within and across ontologies. This paper presents two case studies of using road-network ontologies to demonstrate the framework for probabilistic geospatial ontologies. Besides inferences within the probabilistic ontologies, we discuss inferences about most similar concepts across ontologies based on the assumption that geospatial action concepts are invariable. The results of such machine-based mappings of most similar concepts are verified with mappings of concepts extracted from human subjects testing. The practical uses of probabilistic geospatial ontologies for concept matching and measuring naming heterogeneities between two ontologies are discussed. Based on our experiments, we propose such a framework for probabilistic geospatial ontologies as an advancement of the proposal to develop semantic reference systems. [Termes IGN] Yunnan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) Mapping dominant vegetation communities is important work for vegetation scientists. It is very difficult to map dominant vegetation communities using multispectral remote sensing data only, especially in mountain areas. However plant community data contain useful information about the relationships between plant communities and their environment. In this paper, plant community data are linked with remote sensing to map vegetation communities. The Bayesian soft classifier was used to produce posterior probability images for each class. These images were used to calculate the prior probabilities. One hundred and eighty plant plots at Meili Snow Mountain, Yunnan Province, China were used to characterize the vegetation distribution for each class along altitude gradients. Then, the frequencies were used to modify the prior probabilities of each class. After stratification in a vegetation part and a non-vegetation part, a maximum-likelihood classification with equal prior probabilities was conducted, yielding an overall accuracy of 82.1% and a kappa accuracy of 0.797. Maximum-likelihood classification with modified prior probabilities in the vegetation part, conducted with a conventional maximum-likelihood classification for the non-vegetation part, yielded an overall accuracy of 87.7%, and a kappa accuracy of 0.861. [Termes IGN] simulation PleiadesRésumé : (Auteur) We present a 3D building reconstruction method from satellite images based on a stochastic approach. It consists in reconstructing buildings by assembling simple urban structures extracted from a library of 3D parametric models, as a LEGO°R game. Such a method is particularly well adapted to data of average quality such as high resolution satellite images. The approach is based on a density formulation defined within a Bayesian framework. The configuration which maximizes this density is found using a RJMCMC sampler which is efficient w.r.t. the multiple parametric object recognition problem. Experimental results are shown on complex buildings and dense urban areas using PLEIADES simulations.
