[Termes IGN] superpixelRésumé : (auteur) Mangrove ecosystems play a very important ecological role on land–ocean interfaces in tropical regions. These ecosystems comprise of various tree species and aquatic animals, protecting the environment and providing a habitat that supports many living organisms including humans. The identification of image regions in mangrove ecosystems plays a significant role in ecosystem monitoring and conservation. Recent studies have suggested oversegmentation of colour images using superpixels as a solution to the segmentation of image regions. This study used the SLIC superpixel algorithm and k-means clustering to segment images taken from a camera mounted on a drone from a mangrove ecosystem in Fiji. The SLIC superpixel algorithm performed well to demarcate image regions with similar colour and texture information into patches and to use k-means for the segmentation of the whole image. These results lend support to the use of superpixel algorithms for the segmentation of mangrove ecosystems. Understanding how superpixels can be used for the segmentation of drone images will assist conservation efforts in mangrove ecosystems. [Termes IGN] traitement de données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes a new method of data mining for determining a 3D mean axis from a set of surveyed Global Navigation Satellite Systems traces. The purpose is to obtain a mean axis and its uncertainty in order for them to be used in line-based positional controls. The method is based on an iterative process of condensation. The final mean axis is selected when a determined level of accuracy is achieved. So the method provides a relative positional accuracy value of the final solution. The example developed in this study demonstrates the viability of this method and allows analysis of the initial size of the set needed in order to achieve a final accuracy. Using real data, the proposed methodology has also been compared with the K-means methodology in order to analyse its advantages and conditions of use. The results have demonstrated an improvement in accuracy and geometrical definition of the axis obtained. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Data about points of interest (POI) have been widely used in studying urban land use types and for sensing human behavior. However, it is difficult to quantify the correct mix or the spatial relations among different POI types indicative of specific urban functions. In this research, we develop a statistical framework to help discover semantically meaningful topics and functional regions based on the co-occurrence patterns of POI types. The framework applies the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling technique and incorporates user check-in activities on location-based social networks. Using a large corpus of about 100,000 Foursquare venues and user check-in behavior in the 10 most populated urban areas of the US, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed methodology by identifying distinctive types of latent topics and, further, by extracting urban functional regions using K-means clustering and Delaunay triangulation spatial constraints clustering. We show that a region can support multiple functions but with different probabilities, while the same type of functional region can span multiple geographically non-adjacent locations. Since each region can be modeled as a vector consisting of multinomial topic distributions, similar regions with regard to their thematic topic signatures can be identified. Compared with remote sensing images which mainly uncover the physical landscape of urban environments, our popularity-based POI topic modeling approach can be seen as a complementary social sensing view on urban space based on human activities. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction
