[Termes IGN] prise en compte du contexteRésumé : (Auteur) A new algorithm based on the fusion of edge and multispectral information is proposed for the pixel-wise classification of very high-resolution (VHR) remotely sensed imagery. It integrates the multispectral, spatial and structural information existing in the image. The edge feature is first extracted using an improved multispectral edge detection method, which takes into account the original multispectral bands, the linear NDVI, and the independent spectral components extracted by independent component analysis (ICA). Direction-lines are then defined using the edge and multispectral information. Two effective spatial measures are calculated based on the direction-lines in order to describe the contextual information and strengthen the multispectral feature space. Then, the support vector machine (SVM) is employed to classify the hybrid structural-multispectral feature set. In experiments, the proposed spatial measures were compared with the pixel shape index (PSI) and the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs well in terms of classification accuracies and visual interpretation. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Elimination of displacement due to map editing inherent in road centerline data of the New Topographic map Information System (NTIS) is implemented. Panchromatic satellite images from ALOS/PRISM are used in the process. Histogram analysis of gray value profiles parallel to the roads is employed. The true-position candidate is selected by supervised classification of histograms using support vector machine (SVM) method. According to the experiments with the Japanese NTIS road centerline database, the proposed method reverses the displacement of approximately 50 % of the road features, while a further 20% of the road features are validated as already located at the true position. The proposed method is proved to be useful for German Amtliches Topographisch-Kartographisches InformationsSystem (ATKIS) road database. This indicates wider applicability of this method to various geographic regions. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Research in the area of 3D city modelling from remote sensed data greatly developed in recent years with an emphasis on systems dealing with the detection and representation of man-made objects, such as buildings and streets. While these systems produce accurate representations of urban environments, they ignore information about the vegetation component of a city. This paper presents a complete image analysis system which, from high-resolution color infrared (CIR) digital images, and a Digital Surface Model (DSM), extracts, segments and classifies vegetation in high density urban areas, with very high reliability. The process starts with the extraction of all vegetation areas using a supervised classification system based on a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. The result of this first step is further on used to separate trees from lawns using texture criteria computed on the DSM. Tree crown borders are identified through a robust region growing algorithm based on tree-shape criteria. A SVM classifier gives the species class for each tree region previously identified. This classification is used to enhance the appearance of 3D city models by a realistic representation of vegetation according to the vegetation land use, shape and tree species. [Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Remote sensing image classification has proven to be attractive for extracting useful thematic information such as landcover. However, often for a given application, spectral information acquired by a remote sensing sensor may not be sufficient to derive accurate information. Incorporation of data from other sources such as a digital elevation model (DEM), and geophysical and geological data may assist in achieving more accurate land-cover classification from remote sensing images. Recently, support vector machines (SVM) have been proposed as an alternative for classification of remote sensing data, and the results are promising. In this paper, we employ the SVM algorithm to perform multisource classification. An IRS–1C LISS III image along with normalized differenced vegetation index (NDVI) image and DEM are used to produce a land-cover classification for a region in the Himalayas. The accuracy of SVM-based multisource classification is compared with several other nonparametric algorithms namely a decision tree classifier, and back propagation and radial basis function neural network classifiers. The well-known kappa coefficient of agreement is used to assess classification accuracy. The differences in the kappa coefficient of classifiers have been statistically evaluated using a pairwise Z-test. The results show a significant increase in the accuracy of the SVM based classifier on incorporation of ancillary data over classification performed solely on the basis of spectral data from remote sensing sensors.
