[Termes IGN] Rouge, merRésumé : (auteur) Developing an accurate Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) in a continuous form is essential for many maritime applications as it can be employed to develop an accurate continuous vertical control datum for hydrographic surveys applications and to produce accurate dynamic electronic navigation charts for safe maritime navigation by mariners. The LAT can be developed in a continuous (surface) using an estimated LAT surface model from the hydrodynamic ocean model along with coastal discrete LAT point values derived from tide gauges data sets to provide the corrected LAT surface model. In this paper, an accurate LAT surface model was developed for the Red Sea case study using a Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) with multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization, namely, WebTide, FES2014, DTU10, and EOT11a models. It was found that the developed optimal hybrid LAT model using MLE with multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization ranges from 0.1 m to 1.63 m, associated with about 2.4 cm of uncertainty at a 95% confidence level in the Red Sea case study area. To validate the accuracy of the developed model, the comparison was made between the optimal hybrid LAT model developed from multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization using the MLE method with the individual LAT models estimated from individual WebTide, FES2014, DTU10, or EOT11a ocean models based on the associated uncertainties estimated at a 95% confidence level. It was found that the optimal hybrid LAT model accuracy is superior to the individual LAT models estimated from individual ocean models with an improvement of about 50% in average, based on the estimated uncertainties. The importance of developing optimal LAT surface model using the MLE method with multiple hydrodynamic ocean models hybridization in this paper with few centimeters level of uncertainty can lead to accurate continuous vertical datum estimation that is essential for many maritime applications. [Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (Auteur) The efficient assessment of convolved hidden Markov models is discussed. The bottom layer is defined as an unobservable categorical first-order Markov chain, whereas the middle layer is assumed to be a Gaussian spatial variable conditional on the bottom layer. Hence, this layer appears marginally as a Gaussian mixture spatial variable. We observe the top layer as a convolution of the middle layer with Gaussian errors. The focus is on assessing the categorical and Gaussian mixture variables given the observations, and we operate in a Bayesian inversion framework. The model is defined to perform the inversion of subsurface seismic amplitude-versus-offset data into lithology/fluid classes and to assess the associated seismic material properties. Due to the spatial coupling in the likelihood functions, evaluation of the posterior normalizing constant is computationally demanding, and brute-force, single-site updating Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms converge far too slowly to be useful. We construct two classes of approximate posterior models, which we assess analytically and efficiently using the recursive forward–backward algorithm. These approximate posterior densities are used as proposal densities in an independent proposal MCMC algorithm to determine the correct posterior model. A set of synthetic realistic examples is presented. The proposed approximations provide efficient proposal densities, which results in acceptance probabilities in the range 0.10–0.50 in the MCMC algorithm. A case study of lithology/fluid seismic inversion is presented. The lithology/fluid classes and the seismic material properties can be reliably predicted. [Termes IGN] probabilitéRésumé : (Editeur) Research without statistics is like water in the sand; the latter is necessary to reap the benefits of the former. This collection of articles is designed to bring together different approaches to applied statistics. The studies presented in this book are a tiny piece of what applied statistics means and how statistical methods find their usefulness in different fields of research from theoretical frames to practical applications such as genetics, computational chemistry, and experimental design. This book presents several applications of the statistics: A new continuous distribution with five parameters—the modified beta Gompertz distribution; A method to calculate the p-value associated with the Anderson–Darling statistic; An approach of repeated measurement designs; A validated model to predict statement mutations score; A new family of structural descriptors, called the extending characteristic polynomial (EChP) family, used to express the link between the structure of a compound and its properties. This collection brings together authors from Europe and Asia with a specific contribution to the knowledge in regards to theoretical and applied statistics.
