[Termes IGN] station permanenteRésumé : (Auteur) New precise network solutions for continuous GPS (cGPS) stations distributed in eastern Ontario and western Québec provide constraints on the regional three-dimensional crustal velocity field. Five years of continuous observations at fourteen cGPS sites were analyzed using Bernese GPS processing software. Several different sub-networks were chosen from these stations, and the data were processed and compared to in order to select the optimal configuration to accurately estimate the vertical and horizontal station velocities and minimize the associated errors. The coordinate time series were then compared to the crustal motions from global solutions and the optimized solution is presented here. A noise analysis model with power-law and white noise, which best describes the noise characteristics of all three components, was employed for the GPS time series analysis. The linear trend, associated uncertainties, and the spectral index of the power-law noise were calculated using a maximum likelihood estimation approach. The residual horizontal velocities, after removal of rigid plate motion, have a magnitude consistent with expected glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA). The vertical velocities increase from subsidence of almost 1.9 mm/year south of the Great Lakes to uplift near Hudson Bay, where the highest rate is approximately 10.9 mm/year. The residual horizontal velocities range from approximately 0.5 mm/year, oriented south–southeastward, at the Great Lakes to nearly 1.5 mm/year directed toward the interior of Hudson Bay at stations adjacent to its shoreline. Here, the velocity uncertainties are estimated at less than 0.6 mm/year for the horizontal component and 1.1 mm/year for the vertical component. A comparison between the observed velocities and GIA model predictions, for a limited range of Earth models, shows a better fit to the observations for the Earth model with the smallest upper mantle viscosity and the largest lower mantle viscosity. However, the pattern of horizontal deformation is not well explained in the north, along Hudson Bay, suggesting that revisions to the ice thickness history are needed to improve the fit to observations. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (Auteur) A novel maximum likelihood-based range estimation algorithm is designed to provide robustness to multipath, which is recognized as a dominant error source in DS-CDMA-based navigation systems. The detection–estimation problem is jointly solved to sequentially estimate the parameters of each individual multipath component and predict the existence of a next possible component. A comparison between contemporary maximum likelihood-based multipath estimation techniques and this new technique is provided. A selection of realistic channel simulation models is used to assess relative performance under different operating situations. A set of real GPS L1/CA data processing results are also presented to further assess the applicability of the proposed algorithm for urban navigation. It assumes knowledge only of basic calculus, matrix algebra and elementary statistics. This third edition contains detailed instructions for the use of the professional version of the Windows-based computer package ITSM2000, now available as a free download from the Springer Extras website. The logic and tools of time series model-building are developed in detail. Numerous exercises are included and the software can be used to analyze and forecast data sets of the user's own choosing. The book can also be used in conjunction with other time series packages such as those included in R. The programs in ITSM2000 however are menu-driven and can be used with minimal investment of time in the computational details. The core of the book covers stationary processes, ARMA and ARIMA processes, multivariate time series and state-space models, with an optional chapter on spectral analysis. Many additional special topics are also covered. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present several estimators of the diagonal elements of the inverse of the covariance matrix, called precision matrix, of a sample of independent and identically distributed random vectors. The main focus is on the case of high dimensional vectors having a sparse precision matrix. It is now well understood that when the underlying distribution is Gaussian, the columns of the precision matrix can be estimated independently form one another by solving linear regression problems under sparsity constraints. This approach leads to a computationally efficient strategy for estimating the precision matrix that starts by estimating the regression vectors, then estimates the diagonal entries of the precision matrix and, in a final step, combines these estimators for getting estimators of the off-diagonal entries. While the step of estimating the regression vector has been intensively studied over the past decade, the problem of deriving statistically accurate estimators of the diagonal entries has received much less attention. The goal of the present paper is to fill this gap by presenting four estimators —that seem the most natural ones— of the diagonal entries of the precision matrix and then performing a comprehensive empirical evaluation of these estimators. The estimators under consideration are the residual variance, the relaxed maximum likelihood, the symmetry-enforced maximum likelihood and the penalized maximum likelihood. We show, both theoretically and empirically, that when the aforementioned regression vectors are estimated without error, the symmetry-enforced maximum likelihood estimator has the smallest estimation error. However, in a more realistic setting when the regression vector is estimated by a sparsity-favoring computationally efficient method, the qualities of the estimators become relatively comparable with a slight advantage for the residual variance estimator.
