[Termes IGN] système de référence localRésumé : (Auteur) The enormous increase in the volume of datasets acquired by lidar systems is leading towards their extensive exploitation in a variety of applications, such as, surface reconstruction, city modeling, and generation of perspective views. Though being a fairly new technology, lidar has been influenced by and had a significant impact on photogrammetry. Such an influence or impact can be attributed to the complementary nature of the information provided by the two systems. For example, photogrammetric processing of imagery produces accurate information regarding object space break lines (discontinuities). On the other hand, lidar provides accurate information describing homogeneous physical surfaces. Hence, it proves logical to combine data from the two sensors to arrive at a more robust and complete reconstruction of 3D objects. This paper introduces alternative approaches for the registration of data captured by photogrammetric and lidar systems to a common reference frame. The first approach incorporates lidar features as control for establishing the datum in the photogrammetric bundle adjustment. The second approach starts by manipulating the photogrammetric imagery to produce a 3D model, including a set of linear features along object space discontinuities, relative to an arbitrarily chosen coordinate system. Afterwards, conjugate photogrammetric and lidar straightline features are used to establish the transformation between the arbitrarily chosen photogrammetric coordinate system and the lidar reference frame. The second approach (bundle adjustment, followed by similarity transformation) is general enough to be applied for the co-registration of multiple three-dimensional datasets regardless of their origin (e.g., adjacent lidar strips, surfaces in Gis databases, and temporal elevation data). The registration procedure would allow for the identification of inconsistencies between the surfaces in question. Such inconsistencies might arise from changes taking place within the object space or inaccurate calibration of the internal characteristics of the lidar and the photogrammetric systems. Therefore, the proposed methodology is useful for change detection and system calibration applications. Experimental results from aerial and terrestrial datasets proved the feasibility of the suggested methodologies. [Termes IGN] validité des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The preceding articles [A05275 and A05276] have described how the CryoSat mission came about, how it was designed, and how the satellite was put together. Little has been yet said about how we will plan the operations, or about the data that will flow to the scientific community. This last article therfore describes those parts of the overal system that will not be launched into space. They include the control and processing centres, as well as less material things like the operations concept and the approach to validation. CryoSat was conceived with clear ideas about the scientific potential of the measurments it would produce. Now shortly before launch, we have accepted 80 proposals from scientific groups who want to exploit this potential, and this article concludes with some examples. [Termes IGN] zone intertropicaleRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-temporal compositing of SPOT-4 VEGETATION imagery over tropical regions was tested to produce spatially coherent monthly composite images with reduced cloud contamination, for the year 2000. Monthly composite images generated from daily images (S1 product, 1-km) encompassing different land cover. types of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, were evaluated in terms of cloud contamination and spatial consistency. A new multi-temporal compositing algorithm was tested which uses different criteria for vegetated and non-vegetated or sparsely vegetated land cover types. Furthermore, a principal components transformation that rescales the noise in the image-Maximum Noise Fraction (MNF)- was applied to a multi-temporal dataset of monthly composite images and tested as a method of additional signal-to-noise ratio improvement. The back-transformed dataset using the first 12 MNF eigenimages yielded an accurate reconstruction of monthly composite images from the dry season (May to September) and enhanced spatial coherence from wet season images (October to April), as evaluated by the Moran's 1 index of spatial autocorrelation. This approach is useful for land cover- change studies in the tropics, where it is difficult to obtain cloud-free optical remote sensing imagery. In Mato Grosso, wet season composite images are important for monitoring agricultural crop cycles. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper a least squares-based method is proposed for adjusting the boundaries of area objects in a GIS that is designed particularly for solving inconsistencies between the areas of digitized and registered land parcels. The principle of this approach is taking the size of the registered area of a land parcel as its true value and to adjust the geometric position of the boundaries of the digitized parcel. First, a generic area adjustment model is derived by incorporating the following two categories of constraints: (a) attribute constraint: the size of the true area of the parcel, and (b) geometric constraints: such as, straight lines, right angles and certain distances. Second, the methods used to adjust the areas of the parcels for different cases are presented. Third, the implementation of the proposed model is illustrated using several case studies. The results of the application and the corresponding analysis demonstrate that the proposed approach is able to maintain a consistency between the areas of the digitized and registered parcels. This study has solved one of the most critical problems in developing a land/cadastral information system, and this solution has been adopted in the processing of real world cadastral data in Shanghai and other cities in China.
