[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents our proposal to evaluate generalised data from non generalised data. We propose a methodology of evaluation that decomposes the process of evaluation into sub-processes where the user can enter his own specifications and criteria of evaluation. We also propose different levels of synthesis according to the evaluation needs. The evaluation can be an ‘evaluation for editing’ to detect and correct generalisation inconsistencies, a ‘descriptive evaluation’ to describe more precisely how the data set represents the reality, or a ‘evaluation for marking’ to compare different generalisations. Of course working on data evaluation is also very useful to improve generalisation software. The proposed methodology is implemented on Laser-Scan Lamps2 GIS and has been tested on real geographical data base (the IGN-France BDTopo©) to produce maps at medium scale. [Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (Auteur) Monitoring crop condition and production estimates at the state and county level is of great interest to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The National Agricultural Statistical Service (NASS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture conducts field interviews with sampled farm operators and obtains crop cuttings to make crop yield estimates at regional and state levels. NASS needs supplemental spatial data that provides timely information on crop condition and potential yields. In this research, the crop model EPIC (Erosion Productivity Impact Calculator) was adapted for simulations at regional scales. Satellite remotely sensed data provide a real-time assessment of the magnitude and variation of crop condition parameters, and this study investigates the use of these parameters as an input to a crop growth model. This investigation was conducted in the semi-arid region of North Dakota in the southeastern part of the state. The primary objective was to evaluate a method of integrating parameters retrieved from satellite imagery in a crop growth model to simulate spring wheat yields at the sub-county and county levels. The input parameters derived from remotely sensed data provided spatial integrity, as well as a real-time calibration of model simulated parameters during the season, to ensure that the modeled and observed conditions agree. A radiative transfer model, SAIL (Scattered by Arbitrary Inclined Leaves), provided the link between the satellite data and crop model. The model parameters were simulated in a geographic information system grid, which was the platform for aggregating yields at local and regional scales. A model calibration was performed to initialize the model parameters. This calibration was performed using Landsat data over three southeast counties in North Dakota. The model was then used to simulate crop yields for the state of North Dakota with inputs derived from NOAA-AVHRR data. The calibration and the state level simulations are compared with spring wheat yields reported by NASS objective yield surveys. [Termes IGN] trafic ferroviaireRésumé : (Auteur) Satellite navigation is increasingly gaining importance as an intersting innovation for fields of transportation. Considering the railway domain, a remarkable impact could be achieved by the implementation of autonomous on-board positioning systems. Satellite navigation promises improved efficiency, cost-effective modernisation, and the development of new applications and services. On the other side, the railway domain poses high positioning demands with respect to availability, reliability, and integrity. Especially integrity is, due to the restricted freedom of movement, a contribution to collision avoidance. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Urban area building extraction is one of the most challenging problems in photogrammetry. Wellextracted buildings are needed for a variety of applications, such as cartography, building GIS databases for cities, and urban planning. This paper presents a new technique to extract 3D building wireframes using a robust multiimage linematching algorithm. Although one pair of images is adequate to find the 3D position of two visibly corresponding image, features, it is not sufficient to solve the general building extraction problem due to obscured parts in the building. Four images are used in this research to extract the building wireframes. First the images are segmented into regions. Regions are then classified into roof regions and nonroof regions based on their size, shape, and intensity values. The roof region boundary pixels are located and used to find the region perimeters. Region correspondence is solved in a pairwise mode over all images using the epipolar constraint, region size, region shape, and region intensity values. Image lines within the corresponding regions are matched over all images simultaneously by first creating a plane for each region line. Planes are then intersected simultaneously and geometric consistency is used to determine acceptance or rejection. Results with high overlap and sidelap aerial images are presented and evaluated. The results show the completeness and accuracy that this method can provide for extracting complex urban buildings. The average coordinate accuracy is about 08 m using 1:4000 scale aerial photographs scanned at 30 um Six buildings were examined; the line detection rate is 98%.
