[Termes IGN] simulationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the integration of vector data into a digital terrain model (DTM) to perform flood risk analysis. The integration of geographic 2D vector objects into a DTM usually raises data coherence issues. To address these issues, 2D objects are transformed into 2,5D objects and then integrated into an enriched DTM in a coherent way. We focus our research on objects describing civil engineering works such as roads, dikes, or embankments. Such a coherent integration of 2D objects into a DTM can change flood behaviour simulations deeply and thus predicted damage areas. The first part of this paper describes the general methodology used for road integration. Simple placing of 2D linear roads on a DIM generally gives unrealistic results. Our approach consists in transforming 2D linear data into 2.5D surfaces describing terrain in a more realistic way. We transform 2D linear roads into 2.5D surfacic roads by assigning them a width, and computing their elevation. The altitude of each point of the road is computed with the help of the DTM and the altimetric attribute of nodes, under slope and regularity constraints. Then, we compute a new DTM, resulting from the original DTM constrained by the 2.5D roads. We observe that this integration alters the DTM locally. The second part reports on the analysis of a DTM after the integration of roads. We base our analysis on two main applications: visualisation and hydrology. As roads were initially captured at a much higher scale than the DTM, the creation of a microrelief is observed. This microrelief may contain artefacts, which could create uncertain areas. The study of these areas helps us to define the range of scale and the validation of such methods. By comparing the results obtained by hydrological simulation with our refined DTM and with the initial DTM, we highlight the precision and coherence gained when using this enriched DTM. With our algorithms. the new DTM is more accurate on certain keyareas such as dikes or roads, which are civil engineering works that are very important for flood simulations. The third part focuses on the implementation of these algorithms in an experimental Java GIS platform, linked to an Oracle 9i database. Then this part report on the analysis of our TIN enrichment. The original TIN is locally modified. Some inconsistencies between the original TIN and the vector data are fixed thanks to the integration of new 2.5D information. For example, in the enriched TIN, rivers follow the talwegs. Without 2.5D vector information, talwegs are interpolated from contour lines and are not consistent with the river network. As a conclusion, we suggest that our work can be extended to fit other applications, such as trajectory computation. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Editeur) Two dominant contemporary views on Information and Communication Technology are that 'the network is the computer' and 'every program is a service'. In line with these views, a strong move is being made towards network-based GIS. The network will mean that professionnals will cease to have proprietary rights over GIS and it will be freed to serve entreprise business and everyday life. Major achievements have been gained in this field. The authors give an overview of the basic issues, supporting technologies, the current status and possible directions. The present paper introduces a method to formalize and integrate different geographic categorizations. The method is based on the mathematical theory of Concept Lattices. These rich structures are used for managing multidimensional geographic categories and their overlapping relationships. The applicability of the method is tested on the problem of integrating different land cover/land use categorizations. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The advent of the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology bus not only enhanced the ease and versatility of spatial data acquisition, but has also diversified the approaches by which it is integrated with remote sensing and geographic information systems (GISs). In this paper the necessity of integrating GPS, remote sensing, and GIS is discussed following their definition. The current status of integration is reviewed under four proposed models: linear, interactive, hierarchical, and complex. Applications of integration are reviewed under three categories: resources management and environmental monitoring, emergency response, and mobile mapping. This paper reveals that linear integration is the most common. Hierarchical integration has found applications in precision farming and environmental modeling. The complex mode of integration is most valuable in diaster mitigation, emergency response, and mobile mapping. With limited cases in hierarchical and complex models, the full potential of integration has not been achieved. The prospects of integration are distributed mobile GISs and location-aware .multi-media digital personal assistants. As mobile communications technologies improve, full integration will find more applications in many new fields after removal of the obstacles in integration.
