[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Knowledge of landscape type can inform cartographic generalization of hydrographic features, because landscape characteristics provide an important geographic context that affects variation in channel geometry, flow pattern, and network configuration. Landscape types are characterized by expansive spatial gradients, lacking abrupt changes between adjacent classes; and as having a limited number of outliers that might confound classification. The US Geological Survey (USGS) is exploring methods to automate generalization of features in the National Hydrography Data set (NHD), to associate specific sequences of processing operations and parameters with specific landscape characteristics, thus obviating manual selection of a unique processing strategy for every NHD watershed unit. A chronology of methods to delineate physiographic regions for the United States is described, including a recent maximum likelihood classification based on seven input variables. This research compares unsupervised and supervised algorithms applied to these seven input variables, to evaluate and possibly refine the recent classification. Evaluation metrics for unsupervised methods include the Davies–Bouldin index, the Silhouette index, and the Dunn index as well as quantization and topographic error metrics. Cross validation and misclassification rate analysis are used to evaluate supervised classification methods. The paper reports the comparative analysis and its impact on the selection of landscape regions. The compared solutions show problems in areas of high landscape diversity. There is some indication that additional input variables, additional classes, or more sophisticated methods can refine the existing classification. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Standardization of methods for data exchange in GIS has along history predating the creation of World Wide Web. The advent of World Wide Web brought the emergence of new solutions for data exchange and sharing including; more recently, standards proposed by the W3C for data exchange involving Semantic Web technologies and linked data. Despite the growing interest in integration, GIS and linked data are still two separate paradigms for describing and publishing spatial data on the Web. At the same time, both paradigms offer complementary ways of representing real world phenomena and means of analysis using different processing functions. The complementarity of linked data and GIS can be leveraged to synergize both paradigms resulting in richer data content and more powerful inferencing. The article presents an approach aimed at integrating linked data with GIS. The approach relies on the use of GIS tools for integration, verification and enrichment of linked data. The GIS tools are employed to enrich linked data by furnishing access to collection of data resources, defining relationship between data resources, and subsequently facilitating GIS data integration with linked data. The proposed approach is demonstrated with examples using data from DBpedia, OSM, and tools developed by the authors for standard GIS software. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (auteur) We propose a novel approach for semantic segmentation of building facades. Our system consists of three distinct layers, representing different levels of abstraction in facade images: segments, objects and architectural elements. In the first layer, the facade is segmented into regions, each of which is assigned a probability distribution over semantic classes. We evaluate different state-of-the-art segmentation and classification strategies to obtain the initial probabilistic semantic labeling. In the second layer, we investigate the performance of different object detectors and show the benefit of using such detectors to improve our initial labeling. The generic approaches of the first two layers are then specialized for the task of facade labeling in the third layer. There, we incorporate additional meta-knowledge in the form of weak architectural principles, which enforces architectural plausibility and consistency on the final reconstruction. Rigorous tests performed on two existing datasets of building facades demonstrate that we outperform the current state of the art, even when using outputs from lower layers of the pipeline. Finally, we demonstrate how the output of the highest layer can be used to create a procedural building reconstruction.
