[Termes IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The integrated management of heterogeneous spatial data, such as continuous fields and discrete data, is an important issue for the Geographic Information (GI) community. Indeed, GI users are forced to navigate among and operate with several tools in order to solve their spatial problems, due to the lack of systems capable of integrating different components, each meant to provide a specific solution. The aim of this article is to propose an OpenGeospatial-compliant solution which supports expert users in handling problems involving heterogeneous data by means of a seamless approach. A class hierarchy modeling spatial discrete objects, continuous data, relationships, and operations, is described, whereby data are organized in agreement with the binary representation. A running example is illustrated to support readers' understanding of the proposed solution. Finally, some guidelines about an implementation modality are given, to demonstrate the applicability of the proposal to an existing DBMS. [Termes IGN] intégration de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) New on-line services that support user generated and user modified maps are emerging at a rapid pace and a vast amount of information has been created. Anyone with Internet access via computer or mobile devices now has the ability to display geospatial data and voluntarily add information without the help of a GIS expert. This user created geospatial content has been named Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) by Goodchild [2007a]. The concept and its implementation present a combination of potential and risks, which now must be considered. This study aims primarily at detecting, and presenting schematically, the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of VGI as a resource for Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) in the North and South contexts. We explore how the integration of VGI with official information can be a powerful source of novel data that can be included in SDIs. We analyse the VGI potential in developing countries, especially in areas where reliable spatial data is scarce and the digital divide is more delineated. We suggest that the use of VGI technology can be capitalised upon by building SDIs, and we conclude with a number of suggestions for further research. [Termes IGN] partage de données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) inspire has set a standard towards which gi providers can work and with which GI users can work seamlessly at European scale. GIS4EU has taken this standard and designed a repeatable process that can be implemented to harmonize heterogeneous spatial datasets. By following the GIS4EU process, a set of rules can be determined for almost any spatial datasets that fall within the INSPIRE spatial themes. Applying these rules promotes locally and nationally relevant spatial information to a seamless European SDI. That this can be done without the need to rebuild or modify at source any existing data repositories enhances the economy, promotes reuse, and extends the flexibility of the whole INSPIRE process.
