[Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (auteur) Content based image retrieval (CBIR) process can retrieve images by matching its feature set values. The proposed novel CBIR methodology called Effective CBIR based on hybrid image features and multilevel approach (CBIR_LTP_GLCM) integrates the hybrid features such as color features and texture features, along with multilevel approach. The color features such as mean and standard deviation are adopted in the proposed method to represent the global color properties of an image. This method manipulates the color input-image by processing the Hue, Saturation and Value channels of the HSV color space. This novel work is enriched with the image feature derived from Local Ternary Pattern (LTP) in addition with GLCM. So, the proposed method CBIR_LTP_GLCM is potentially charged with meaningful modifications travelling with color image manipulation and extended image retrieval accuracy with the aid of multilevel approach. The proposed methodology is experimentally compared with the existing recent CBIR versions by using the standard database such as Corel-1 k, and a user contributed database named DB_VEG. [Termes IGN] visualisation cartographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Color quality evaluation is key to judging map quality, which can improve data visualization and communication. However, most existing methods for evaluating map colors are tedious and subjective manual methods. In this paper, we study sequential color schemes, a widely used map color type and propose a learning-based approach for evaluating the color quality. The approach consists of two steps. First, we extract and characterize the cartographic factors for determining the quality of sequential color schemes, such as color order, color match, color harmony, color discrimination and color uniformity. Second, we present a model to predict the color quality based on AdaBoost, a type of ensemble learning algorithm with excellent classification performance and use these factors as input data. We conduct a case study based on 781 samples and train the AdaBoost-based model to predict the quality of sequential color schemes. To evaluate the model’s performance, we calculated the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC). The AUC values are 0.983 and 0.977 on the training data and testing data, respectively. These results indicate that the proposed approach can be used to automatically evaluate the quality of sequential color schemes for maps, which helps mapmakers select good colors. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) The cartographic representation of geographic phenomena in the space–time cube comes with special challenges and opportunities when compared with two-dimensional maps. While the added dimension allows the display of attributes that vary with time, it is difficult to display rapidly varying temporal data given the limited display height. In this study, we adapt 2D cyclic point symbols to construct 3D surfaces designed along a helical path for the space–time cube. We demonstrate how these complex 3D helical surfaces can display detailed data, including data reported daily over 100 years and data reported in four-hour intervals over a year. To create the point symbols, each value is plotted along the curve of a helix, with each turn of the helix representing one year or week, respectively. The model is modified by varying the radii from the time axis to all points using the attribute value, in these cases maximum daily temperature and four-hourly ridership, and then creating a triangulated surface from the resulting points. Using techniques common to terrain representation, we apply hue and saturation to the surface based on attribute values, and lightness based on relief shading. Multiple surfaces can be displayed in a space–time cube with a consistent time interval facing the viewer, and the surfaces or viewer perspective can be rotated to display synchronized variations. We see this method as one example of how cartographic design can refine or enhance operations in the space–time cube. However, creating a map involves more than just combining data layers. Thus we develop cartographic functions for geoportals to support better visual hierarchy in user map mashups. This includes a couple of preparatory steps followed by a smart cartographic background symbolization derived from the original layer style. We evaluate different approaches to background symbolization: greyscale, desaturation, and smart background. The different background symbolization methods are analysed with two concrete map examples and evaluated with a survey. The smart background symbolization developed in this work improves the visual hierarchy of the map mashup by reducing the visual importance of the background layers. [Termes IGN] saturation de la couleurRésumé : (auteur) Unsupervised change detection techniques have been widely employed in the remote-sensing area when suitable reference data is not available. Image (or Index) differencing is one of the most commonly used methods due to its simplicity. However, past applications of image differencing were often inefficient in separating real change and noise due to the lack of steps for feature selection and integration of contextual information. To address these issues, we propose a novel unsupervised procedure which uses two complementary features, namely luminance and saturation, extracted from multispectral images, and combines T-point thresholding, Bayes fusion, and Markov Random Fields. Through a case study, the performance of our proposed procedure was compared with other three unsupervised changedetection methods including Principle Component Analysis (PCA), Fuzzy c-means (FCM), and Expectation Maximum-Markov Random Field (EM-MRF). The change detection results from our proposed method are more compact with less noise than those from other methods over urban areas.
