This network consists of a large number of surface features which can be seen in the images, whereas their object co-ordinates were photogrametrically derived by using images of the Viking missions to Mars.
In the context of new missions to the Red Planet, many input parameters of the global bundle block adjustment like the gravitational field of Mars, the Viking orbit information of the spacecrafts and the occultation data, were newly analysed. Additionally, the Pathfinder mission in 1997 provides with its successful lander- a new ground control point and with the help of the communication radio signal new and accurate estimates of the rotational parameters of Mars. All this datasets are influencing directly the object co-ordinates of the surface landmarks and their accuracy, so it was necessary to recompute and update the global control point network using this new information. Due to the today's computer power a simultaneous processing of all input parameters was possible to ensure a consistent handling of the data and to get high accuracy of the ground co-ordinates.
Within a bundle block adjustment 7 parameters of the interior orientation, the positions and attitude angles of 1140 images and the object co-ordinates of 3739 points were estimated. The mathematical model of this photogrammetric adjustment is based on the collinearity equations, where the positions of the images are treated independently from each other. The rms values of the theoretical standard deviation of the adjusted ground co-ordinates amount to 740 m, which is a significant improvement compared with former results (1 5 km). The accuracy of the ground point co-ordinates is very close to the theoretical accuracy limit of 520 m, where error-free orientation parameters are assumed. Using the data in the present case, no additional increasement of the accuracy can be achieved.
The datasets were furthermore used as input for a bundle block adjustment with orbital constraints. In this case the orbit trajectory of the spacecraft will be estimated instead of the single image positions which are a function of that trajectory. This ensures the proper handling of the position data, all images taken in one orbit are lying on a physical consistent trajectory. The global adjustment was performed using this new adjustment approach, but it was found out that the data are not suited for this special technique. Therefore no final results using orbital constraints were achieved.Numéro de notice : 57824 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=60287 Réservation

[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Photogrammetry has many advantages as a technique for the acquisition of three-dimensional models for virtual reality. But the traditional photogrammetric process to extract 3D geometry from multiple images is often considered too labour-intensive. In this paper a method is presented with which a polyhedral object model can be efficiently derived from measurements in a single image combined with geometric knowledge on the object. Man-made objects can often be described by a polyhedral model and usually many geometric constraints are valid. These constraints are inferred during image interpretation or may even be extracted automatically. In this paper different types of geometric constraints and their use for object reconstruction are discussed. Applying more constraints than needed for reconstruction will lead to redundancy and thereby to the need for an adjustment. The redundancy is the basis for reliability that is introduced by testing for possible measurement errors. The adjusted observations are used for object reconstruction in a separate step. Of course the model that is obtained from a single image will not be complete, for instance due to occlusion. An arbitrary number of models can be combined using similarity transformations based on the coordinates of common points. The information gathered allows for a bundle adjustment if highest accuracy is strived for. In virtual reality applications this is generally not the case, as quality is mainly determined by visual perception. A visual aspect of major importance is the photo-realistic texture mapped to the faces of the object. This texture is extracted from the same (single) image. In this paper the measurement process, the different types of constraints, their adjustment and the object model reconstruction are treated. A practical application of the proposed method is discussed in which a texture mapped model of a historic building is constructed and the repeatability of the method is assessed. The application shows the feasibility of the method and the potential of photogrammetry as an efficient tool for the production of 3D models for virtual reality applications. [Termes IGN] VRMLRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional photo-models are object models with texture information taken from photographs. They can be used, among other things, to present structural projects to the public and decision-makers. The geometrical modeling of our photo-model is supported by assumptions on the object shape. These assumptions are introduced as fictitious feature observations into the process of hybrid bundle block adjustment. The resulting geometrical model is then filled with texture by projecting the original photographs onto it. A suitable data format for such purposes is VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) because such three-dimensional photo-models can be made available over the Internet. In addition, they can be combined very easily with other media such as texts, sounds, images, movies and, because of that, may serve as a basis for information systems. [Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (Auteur) Creating virtual environment models often requires geometric data from range sensors as well as photometric data from CCD cameras. The model must be geometrically correct, visually realistic, and small enough in size to allow real-time rendering. We present an approach based on 3D range sensor data, multiple CCD cameras, and a colour high-resolution digital still camera. The multiple CCD cameras provide images for a photogrammetric bundle adjustment with constraints. The results of the bundle adjustments are used to register the 3D images from the range sensor in one coordinate system. The images from the high-resolution still camera provide the texture for the final model. The paper describes the system, the techniques for the registration of the 3D images, the building of the efficient geometric model, and the registration and integration of the texture with a simplified geometric model.
