[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (auteur) Present and forthcoming satellite gravity missions provide us with new and unique datasets in order to model the Earth's gravity field at 100 km resolution. These new models will bring significant advances in our understanding of the Earth's structure and dynamics. However, it will be necessary to combine satellite data with surface and airborne measurements in order to improve the short wavelength components of the gravity field. The derived regional models with an increased spatial resolution will be used to carry out geodynamic studies at lithospheric or crustal scale. Whereas the classical spherical harmonics decomposition leads to strong numerical difficulties when dealing with local features, wavelet-based representations can handle the local scales as well as the global ones; they should thus be extremely useful to derive local models taking into account data of different origins. Here we describe the construction of wavelet frames on the sphere based on the Poisson multipole wavelet. Those wavelets are of special interest for field modelling since their shape is linked to the potential of multipole sources, and their scaling parameter to the multipole depth (Holschneider et al., 2003). We also compute a local wavelet decomposition of the gravity field at high resolution from evenly and unevenly distributed data using least squares collocation. Our first results show the efficiency of such a representation. [Termes IGN] World Geodetic System 1984Résumé : (Auteur) The WGS84 ellipsoid is tessellated using quadrilaterals of roughly the same size. This tiling is of general interest to global geographical information systems, but it has special relevance to global digital elevation models based on block averages. The simple relation between the tiling presented and the latitude/longitude reference system makes the tiling easy to implement, and the quadrilateral property of the cells offers regular subdivision like quadtrees. An error analysis gives a strict bound on the difference between cell averages calculated in plane and ellipsoidal coordinates. The mathematical results from this investigation are general and can be applied in error analysis related to other types of quadrilateral meshes. The grid can be easily subdivided into quadtree blocks. The error estimate makes it possible to combine the quadtree structure with standard two-dimensional wavelet representations. [Termes IGN] précision infrapixellaireRésumé : (Auteur) Sub-pixel mapping and sub-pixel sharpening are techniques for increasing the spatial resolution of sub-pixel image classifications. The proposed method makes use of wavelets and artificial neural networks. Wavelet multiresolution analysis facilitates the link between different resolution levels. In this work a higher resolution image is constructed after estimation of the detail wavelet coefficients with neural networks. Detail wavelet coefficients are used to synthesize the high-resolution approximation. The applied technique allows for both sub-pixel sharpening and sub-pixel mapping. An algorithm was developed on artificial imagery and tested on artificial as well as real synthetic imagery. The proposed method resulted in images with higher spatial resolution showing more spatial detail than the source imagery. Evaluation of the algorithm was performed both visually and quantitatively using established classification accuracy indices. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) A comparison of the performance of three feature extraction methods was made for mapping forest crown closure (CC) and leaf area index (LAI) with EO-1 Hyperion data. The methods are band selection (SB), principal component analysis (PCA) and wavelet transform (WT). Hyperion data were acquired on October 9, 200 1. A total of 38 field measurements of CC and LAI were collected on August 10 - 11, 2001, at Blodgett Forest Research Station, University of California at Berkeley, USA. The analysis method consists of (1) conducting atmospheric correction with High Accuracy Atmospheric Correction for Hyperspectral Data (HATCH) to retrieve surface reflectance, (2) extracting features with the three methods: SB, PCA and WT, (3) establishing multivariate regression prediction models, (4) predicting and mapping pixel-based CC and LAI values, and (5) validating the CC and LAI mapped results with photo-interpreted CC and LAI values. The experimental results indicate that the energy features extracted by the WT method are the most effective for mapping forest CC and LAI (mapped accuracy (MA) for CC = 84.90%, LAI MA= 75.39%), followed by the PCA method (CC MA= 77.42%, LAI MA= 52.36%). The SB method performed the worst (CC MA= 57.77%, LAI MA= 50.87%).
