[Termes IGN] orthoimageRésumé : (Auteur) Like other basic infrastructures (roads, education, health service, utilities), the availability of Indonesia's base maps is the responsibility of the Indonesian government. In terms of infrastructure development, the private sector has long been involved in the provision of better communication, education and health servicefacilities. However, mapping the nation in the NEXTMap Indonesia (NMI) initiative is a new paradigm; a private sector company is now solely involved in providing the national base maps of Indonesia. On the one hand, the new initiative greatly accelerates the programme; on the other, the Indonesian Government is required to spend not one cent on the project. The authors address the current status of NMI, the accuracy that has been achieved and how national development will benefit from such a programme in Indonesia. This is a moment in which Indonesian mapping industries are being reborn. Mais quelle réponse peut-on apporter lorsque, comme cela est le cas pour un grand nombre de territoires, il est extrêmement difficile, voire impossible d'obtenir d'autorisation de survol ? Les satellites à résolution métrique ou quasi métrique permettent d'apporter une alternative opérationnelle et économiquement compétitive à ce dilemme. [Termes IGN] réalité de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) This research was designed to evaluate the operational utility of airborne video for classification accuracy assessment of satellite imagery. There are a number of logistical advantages in utilizing airborne video data particularly in remote or large catchment regions where ground accessibility can be prohibitively expensive. In a study of land cover characteristics in the Barossa Valley, South Australia comparisons of Landsat ETM+ classification accuracy assessments were derived from both airborne video and standard ground truthing point sampling techniques. The airborne video data was obtained by randomly frame grabbing 243 individual scenes along four predetermined flight lines and computing classification accuracies and error matrix statistics. These results were then compared with similar statistics derive ' dfirom 180 randomly chosen ground sampling sites. The costs involved in obtaining both sets of data per sampling point were also calculated. The results demonstrated that the airborne video data provided similar degrees of accuracy assessment at a cost of approximately one seventh that of the ground survey with the added advantages of increased data collection, overall improved site accessibility and the ability to continually store and review the data. The cost differentiation would become even more pronounced in more remote and inaccessible areas. In general the results of the unsupervised Landsat ETM+ classification were rather poor producing an overall general accuracy of 70% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.65, highlighting the classification difficulties encountered in using commercial satellite imagery for land cover assessments in an area with very heterogeneous fine grained land use patterns. [Termes IGN] restitutionRésumé : (Auteur) Digital elevation models (DEMs) produced from photogrammetric data sources have long relied on the use of ground control points to give them scale and orientation. However, in areas such as coastlines, landslides, or glaciers, where identification of suitable natural features and premarking is difficult, the use of conventional ground control may be unfeasible. This paper reports on research that uses independently collected DEMs derived from kinematic GPS to orient surfaces produced by aerial photogrammetric methods, using a leastsquares surface matching algorithm. During algorithm development, three stages of testing were carried out, Using increasingly more complex datasets. Initially, simulated surfaces were used to validate the matching theory and program. Then, a DEM derived from conventional aerial photography was matched with a GPS model, highlighting the effectiveness of surface matching to recover systematic errors in datosets. Finally, surfaces derived from small format digital imagery were successfully fused with wireframe GPS surfaces, the high redundancy and automation potential creating an elegant and cheaper alternative to photocontrol. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Editeur) Surveying and mapping have recently undergone a transition from disci pli ne-oriented technologies, such as geodesy, surveying, photogrammetry and cartography, into the methodology-oriented, integrated discipline of geoinformatics. This is based on GPS positioning, remote sensing, digital photography for data acquisition and GIS for data manipulation and data output. Gottfried Konecny attempts to present the required basic background for remote sensing, digital photogrammetry and GIS in the new geoinformatics concept in which the different methodologies must be combined. For remote sensing, the basic fundamentals are the properties of electromagnetic radiation and their interaction with matter. This radiation is received by sensors and platforms in analogue or digital form, and is subject to image processing. In photogrammetry, the stereo-concept is used for the location of information in 3D. With the advent of high-resolution satellite systems in stereo the theory of analytical photogrammetry restituting 2D image information into 3D is of increasing importance, merging the remote sensing approach with that of photogrammetry. The result of the restitution is a direct input into geographic information systems in vector or in raster form. The fundamentals of these are described in detail, with an emphasis on global, regional and local applications.
