[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Variable-scale maps have been advocated by several authors in the context of mobile cartography. In the literature on real-time map generalisation, however, corresponding methods that resolve cartographic conflicts by deformation of the underlying map space together with the map foreground, are underrepresented. This paper demonstrates how the concept of a malleable space can be applied as a part of the generalisation process and incorporated into the overall methodology of point generalisation. Two different algorithms are used, a density-equalising cartogram algorithm and Laplacian smoothing. Both methods work in real-time and are datadriven. In addition, they allow for a parameterisation in combi-nation with a quadtree data structure, as well as a combination with 'classic' generalisation operators (e.g. selection, aggregation, displacement) based on the quadtree. The quadtree serves both as a spatial index for fast retrieval and search of points, and as a density estimator to inform generalisation operators. The use of the quadtree as a common spatial index provides a tool to combine variable-scale maps with classic generalisation. A combination of the two allows, at small map scales, the maintenance of detail in dense areas and data reduction in sparse areas. Additionally, it facilitates building a modular workflow for real-time map generalisation. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) On nautical charts, undersea features are portrayed by sets of soundings (depth points) and isobaths (depth contours) from which map readers can interpret undersea features. Different techniques were developed for automatic sounding selection and isobath generalization. These methods are mainly used to generate a new chart from the bathymetric database or from a larger scale chart through selection and simplification. However, a part of the process consists in selecting and emphasizing undersea features formed by groups of soundings and isobaths on the chart according to their relevance to maritime navigation. Hence, automation of the process requires classification of features and their generalization through the application of a set of operators according not only to geometric constraints but also to their meaning.
The objective of this work is to conceive a multi-agent system (MAS) for nautical chart generalization that is driven by the knowledge on the generalization process and the undersea features and their relationships. First, this work provides a feature-centered ontology modeling of the generalization process. Then, the MAS structure is introduced where agents access cartographic knowledge stored in the ontology. The MAS makes use of measure algorithms to evaluate constraint violations on the chart in order to decide which generalization operators to apply. The whole model has been implemented to provide generalization plans on a real case study.

[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) The article is composed of two sections. In the first section, the authors describe the application of minimum line dimensions which are dependent on line shape, width and the operational scale of the map. The proposed solutions are based on the Euclidean metric space, for which the minimum dimensions of Saliszczew’s elementary triangle (Elementary triangle – is the term pertaining to model, standard triangle of least dimensions securing recognizability of a line. Its dimensions depend on scale of the map and width of the line representing it. The use of a triangle in the simplification process is as follows: triangles with sides (sections) on an arbitrary line and bases (completing the sides) are compared with lengths of the shorter side and the base of the elementary triangle.) were adapted. The second part of the article describes an application of minimum line dimensions for verifying and assessing generalized data. The authors also propose a method for determining drawing line resolution to evaluate the accuracy of algorithm simplification. Taking advantage of the proposed method, well-known simplification algorithms were compared on the basis of qualitative and quantitative evaluation. Moreover, corresponding with the methods of simplified data accuracy assessment the authors have extended these solutions with the rejected data. This procedure has allowed the identification of map areas where graphic conflicts occurred. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) To enable smooth zooming, we propose a method to continuously generalize buildings from a given start map to a smaller-scale goal map, where there are only built-up area polygons instead of individual building polygons. We name the buildings on the start map original buildings. For an intermediate scale, we aggregate the original buildings that will become too close by adding bridges. We grow (bridged) original buildings based on buffering, and simplify the grown buildings. We take into account the shapes of the buildings both at the previous map and goal map to make sure that the buildings are always growing. The running time of our method is in O (n3), where n is the number of edges of all the original buildings.
The advantages of our method are as follows. First, the buildings grow continuously and, at the same time, are simplified. Second, right angles of buildings are preserved during growing: the merged buildings still look like buildings. Third, the distances between buildings are always larger than a specified threshold. We do a case study to show the performances of our method.Numéro de notice : C2017-027 Affiliation des auteurs : LASTIG COGIT+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : GEOMATIQUE Nature : Communication nature-HAL : ComAvecCL&ActesPubliésIntl DOI : 10.1145/3152178.3152188 Date de publication en ligne : 01/12/2017 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1145/3152178.3152188 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=89290 mR-V: Line simplification through mnemonic rasterization / Emmanuel Stefanakis in Geomatica, vol 70 n° 4 (December 2016)PermalinkAn immune genetic algorithm to buildings displacement in cartographic generalization / Yageng Sun in Transactions in GIS, vol 20 n° 4 (August 2016)PermalinkBuilding displacement based on the topological structure / Yageng Sun in Cartographic journal (the), Vol 53 n° 3 (August 2016)PermalinkImplications of weighting metrics for line generalization with Visvalingam's algorithm / Mahes Visvalingam in Cartographic journal (the), Vol 53 n° 3 (August 2016)PermalinkThe Visvalingam algorithm: metrics, measures and heuristics / Mahes Visvalingam in Cartographic journal (the), Vol 53 n° 3 (August 2016)PermalinkFrom taxonomies to ontologies: formalizing generalization knowledge for on-demand mapping / Nicholas Gould in Cartography and Geographic Information Science, Vol 43 n° 3 (June 2016)PermalinkRepresentation and discovery of building patterns: a three-level relational approach / Shihong Du in International journal of geographical information science IJGIS, vol 30 n° 5-6 (May - June 2016)PermalinkAn impressionistic cartographic solution for base map land cover with coarse pixel data / Paulo Raposo in Cartographic perspectives, n° 83 (2016)PermalinkAutomatisation de la généralisation cartographique : Relations et interactions, orchestration et approches multi-agents / Cécile Duchêne (2016)PermalinkPermalink
