[Termes IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In the process of topographic map updating, spatial conflicts (inconsistency) between rivers and contours may be created. This project studies the particularity and complexity of the relationships between rivers and contours, and develops a method for automatic detection of the spatial conflicts between them. This method consists of a refined descriptive spatial model (called a topological chain), an algorithm for the computation of spatial relations, and a set of rules for the determination of spatial conflicts. In the spatial relation model, the topological relationships, order relationships, and metric relationships are integrated to describe the line-line spatial relationships. The rules are derived from the natural relations between rivers and contours in the real world. The effectiveness of this method has been verified by using the national 1:50 000 topographic map databases. An accuracy of 91% has been achieved. [Termes IGN] requête spatiotemporelleRésumé : (Auteur) The study of convective clouds is an important issue in weather analysis. Previous methods are based on shape matching and level set. In this paper, a method based on snake model is used for cloud tracking. Snakes are known to be more efficient than level set for contour detection however they do not handle topological changes. Therefore, geometrical criteria are introduced to characterize topological transformations. Geometrical techniques are then combined and inserted in the tracking algorithm to perform morphological operations. By applying this method, a history of the positions of the clouds is obtained. In a second stage, a data model is presented for cloud interrogation. Physical information is introduced and data are organized so that spatiotemporal queries can be performed. Results obtained with the tracking method on a real data set are presented and some query examples are given. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Unlike the simplification of independent line features, the generalization of terrain contour is to handle the “line group", which describes the geomorphologic characteristics, such as the terrain valley and ridge. In decision level, the real operation object in the terrain generalization is not the line segment itself but the drainage network contained in the contour representation. This paper presents a method to generalize contour based on the analysis of drainage structure. The first step is to extract the drainage system from the contour lines and build the associations between the valley branch and the bend group of contour lines. The second step is to analyse the properties of drainage tree structure to decide which branch to be removed, and then to perform the geometric elimination of bends. In this study the extraction of drainage system is directly from contour (other than from DTM data) based on the Delaunay triangulation model. Three kinds of tree structure organization are investigated: the hierarchical binary tree representing the bend inclusion relationship contained in each contour line, the planar structure tree describing valley topological relationship and the semantic hierarchical tree representing valley joint level structure from the point of view of hydrology. Issus de prises de vue et de chaînes de traitements différentes, ces deux "fonds verts" se ressemblent assez peu, alors qu'ils décrivent plus ou moins les mêmes objets. Afin d'homogénéiser cette production, ce qui devrait permettre de réaliser des économies et de produire de meilleures couches de données, les deux organismes mettent au point une nouvelle méthode de génération automatique du fond vert, avec l'aide du laboratoire COGIT de l'IGN. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This chapter reviews practical experience gained from the application of generalisation tech-nologies in the production environment of the French National Mapping Agency (IGN). Two main stages in production that require generalisation solutions are presented. The first step con-cerns the process of creating from a geographic database a first version of a cartographic database in which generalisation conflicts have been solved. This allows us to print a first map edition. This complex derivation step is made only once for a map which will be published over many years after updating. The second step focuses on the repetitive process to propagate updating in a cartographic database in order to provide new map editions with a less expensive solution than via a new derivation process. In this chapter, generalisation solutions to produce a 1 : 100000 topo-graphic map series are presented in detail and illustrated with a number of examples illustrating road generalisation. These solutions come from different research projects on generalisation. The benefits of such new solutions are discussed.
