[Termes IGN] polyèdreRésumé : (auteur) We describe a model driven approach for extracting simple 3D polyhedral building models from aerial images. The novelty of the approach lies in the use of featureless and direct optimization based on image rawbrightness. The 3D polyhedral model is estimated by optimizing a criterion that combines a global dissimilarity measure and a gradient score over several aerial images. The proposed approach gives more accurate 3D reconstruction than feature-based approaches since it does not involve intermediate noisy data (e.g., the 3D points of a noisy Digital Elevation Model). We provide experiments and evaluations of performance. Experimental results show the feasibility and robustness of the proposed approach. [Termes IGN] potentiel de pesanteur terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) The gravitational potential of a constant density general polyhedron can be expressed both in terms of a closed analytical expression and as a series expansion involving the corresponding spherical harmonic coefficients. The latter can be obtained from two independent algorithms, which differ not only in their algorithmic architecture but in their efficiency and overall performance, especially when computing the coefficients of higher degree and order. In the present paper a comparative study of all these three approaches is carried out focusing on the numerical implementation of the recursive relations appearing in the two algorithms for the computation of the polyhedral potential harmonic coefficients. The performed numerical investigations show that the linear algorithm proposed by Jamet and Thomas (Proceedings of the second international GOCE user workshop, ‘GOCE, The Geoid and Oceanography’, ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, 8–10 March 2004, ESA SP-569, 2004), but so far not implemented, achieves a reasonable accuracy at a computational expense that opens to practical applications, for instance in the field of satellite gravimetry/gradiometry interpretation. The convergence behavior of the linear recursion algorithm is studied thoroughly and a computational procedure is proposed that enables the stable computation of potential harmonic coefficients up to degree 60 when referring to an arbitrarily shaped polyhedral body. [Termes IGN] toitRésumé : (Auteur) During the past several years, point density covering topographic objects with airborne lidar (Light Detection And Ranging) technology has been greatly improved. This achievement provides an improved ability for reconstructing more complicated building roof structures; more specifically, those comprising various model primitives horizontally and/or vertically. However, the technology for automatically reconstructing such a complicated structure is thus far poorly understood and is currently based on employing a limited number of pre-specified building primitives. This paper addresses this limitation by introducing a new technique of modeling 3D building objects using a data-driven approach whereby densely collecting low-level modeling cues from lidar data are used in the modeling process. The core of the proposed method is to globally reconstruct geometric topology between adjacent linear features by adopting a BSP (Binary Space Partitioning) tree. The proposed algorithm consists of four steps: (a) detecting individual buildings from lidar data, (b) clustering laser points by height and planar similarity, (c) extracting rectilinear lines, and (d) planar partitioning and merging for the generation of polyhedral models. This paper demonstrates the efficacy of the algorithm for creating complex models of building rooftops in 3D space from airborne lidar data. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) We integrate lidar point clouds and large-scale vector maps to perform building modeling. The proposed scheme comprises three major steps: (a) the preprocessing of lidar point clouds and vector maps, (b) roof analysis, and (c) building reconstruction. During the preprocessing stage, the building polygons are first obtained from the polylines, followed by the selections of lidar points in the building polygons. An irregular triangulated network is then built to represent the facets. The segmentation of planar facets for roof analysis is implemented by examining the patch size and the facet orientation. The interior 3D roof edges are then determined from the intersection of the roof planes. Finally, the building models are reconstructed through regularization. Two sample sites are tested for the purposes of validation. The experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme allows for high fidelity and accuracy, provided that the point cloud density is enough.
