[Termes IGN] Global Navigation Satellite SystemRésumé : (Auteur) It has been a while since there has been a GNSS update in this magazine. Not for a lack of news I might add, but more for a lack of time to provide an overview of the news. Much has happened since autumn 2010. In the USA a big argument around GPS frequencies has started whilst at the same time the EU is trying to figure out how to continue with Galileo. Glonass has faced a major setback when a rocket with three satellites on board explosed. Last, but not least, the Chinese keeps on a steady pace and continue launching satellites. [Termes IGN] secours d'urgenceRésumé : (Editeur) In 1997, a Canadian government study determined that an improved search and rescue system would be one based on medium-Earth orbit satellites, which can provide full global coverage, can determine beacon location, and would need fewer ground stations. This month's column examines the architecture of the GPS-based Distress Alerting Satellite System and takes a look at early test results. [Termes IGN] satellite de positionnementRésumé : (Auteur) On february 22nd 1978 the first block 1 satellite : Navstar 1, was launched which means that february 22nd of this year marked the 30th anniversary of GPS. Navstar, now called GPS has been a military project from the start although there seems to be a gradual shift in government policy giving the civilian sector an increasing voice in GPS. [Termes IGN] positionnement ponctuel précisRésumé : (Auteur) Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have an endless number of applications in industry, science, military, transportation and recreation & sports. Two systems are currently in operation namely GPS (the USA Global Positioning System) and GLONASS (the Russian GLObal NAvigation Satellite System), and a third is planned, the European satellite navigation system GALILEO. The potential performance improvements achievable through combining these systems could be significant and expectations are high. The need is inevitable to explore the future of positioning from different nominal constellations. In this research paper, Bernese 5.0 software could be modified to simulate and process GNSS observations from three different constellations (GPS, Glonass and Galileo) using different combinations. This study presents results of code single point positioning for five stations using the three constellations and different combinations.
