However, thorough investigations into the multiple scale impact of the 2D/3D architectural morphology on urban land surface temperature (LST) remain limited. Taking Beijing as a case study area, we quantified the contributions of the 2D/3D architectural morphology indicators and revealed their marginal effects on multiple scales using the boosted regression trees (BRT) method. The results showed that (1) the building coverage ratio and building height were the most significant factors influencing the LST across all spatial scales and seasons, (2) the 3D shape index, 3D fractal, and 3D adjacency were found to be influential factors, with sum contributions varying from 6.0% to 37.7%, and (3) in summer, the 3D shape index showed a stepwise negative correlation with the LST. The 3D fractal and 3D adjacency exhibited both positive and negative correlations with the LST. When the spatial scale was 240 m, the regulation amplitudes for the 3D shape index, 3D fractal, and 3D adjacency were 2.0°C, 1.0°C and 1.0°C, respectively. These findings provide quantitative insights that can be used to improve urban thermal environments and achieve sustainable urban development by adjusting architectural morphology. [Termes IGN] surveillance hydrologiqueRésumé : (auteur) Traditional methodologies of flood monitoring are generally time-consuming and demanding tasks. In most cases, there is no possibility of flood monitoring in large areas. Due to the major drawbacks of conventional methods in flood detection of large districts, Remote Sensing (RS) has been efficiently employed as the best solution owing to its being synoptic view and cost-effective methodologies. One of the most challenging issues in RS technologies is choosing the optimal spectral bands to detect changes in the natural environment. In this research, Elimination and Choice Expressing Reality (ELECTRE), as one of the most widely used Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques, was applied to select the optimal bands of Sentinel-2 satellite images for detection of flood-affected areas. For this purpose, the decision-making method was implemented during ten options and six criteria. The properties of the Sentinel-2 satellite images consisted of ten bands (with 10 and 20m spatial resolutions) and the criteria are the signal to noise ratio (SNR) related to sensor, standard deviation, variance, the SNR related to the bands, spatial resolution, and wavelength. Afterward, the ELECTRE technique was used to select six optimal bands among ten bands. The ELECTRE algorithm was programmed in MATLAB programming language that could make decisions with multiple options and multiple criteria. Furthermore, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification method, as one of the most powerful Machine Learning (ML) models, has been applied to classify the water bodies related to before and after the flood. According to the results of optimal bands classification, Overall Accuracy (OA) and Kappa Coefficient (KC) for the pre-flood classification were 93.65 percent and 0.923, respectively, and for the post-flood classification, the OA and KC values were 94.52 percent and 0.935 respectively. In the case of before and after flooding, the results of classification model for optimal bands had more accuracy levels in comparison with those obtained by original bands. Generally, it was found that the ELECTRE technique for selecting the best bands of Sentinel-2 satellite images and detection of flood-affected areas, in a short period of time with high accuracy, offers remarkable and consistent results. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) represents a rather innovative, quick, and low-cost methodological approach offering applications in several fields of investigation. The present study illustrates the developed method using Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) based on UAV-derived data for evaluating short-term morphological-topographic changes of the beach system and related implications for coastal vulnerability assessment. UAV surveys were performed during the summers of 2019 and 2020 along a beach stretch affected by erosion, located along the central Adriatic coast. Acquired high-resolution aerial photos were used to generate large-scale DEMs as well as orthophotos of the beach using the Structure from Motion (SfM) image processing tool. Comparison of the generated 2019 and 2020 DEMs highlighted significant morphological changes and a sediment volume loss of about 780 m3 within a surface area of about 4400 m2. Based on 20 m spaced beach profiles derived from the DEMs, a coastal vulnerability assessment was performed using the CVA approach that highlighted some significant variations in the CVA index between 2019 and 2020. Results evidence that UAV surveys provide high-resolution topographic data, suitable for specific beach monitoring activities and the updating of some parameters that enter in the CVA model contributing to its correct application. [Termes IGN] régressionRésumé : (auteur) The estimate of the historical effective climate sensitivity (histeffCS) is revisited with updated historical observations of the global energy budget in order to derive an observational constraint on the effective sensitivity of climate to CO2 (CO2effCS). A regression method based on observations of the energy budget over 1971-2017 is used to estimate the histeffCS (4.34 [2.17;22.83] K, median and 5-95% range). Then, climate model simulations are used to evaluate the distance between the histeffCS and the CO2effCS. The observational estimate of the histeffCS and the distance between the histeffCS and the CO2effCS are combined to derive an observational constraint on CO2effCS of 5.46 [2.40;35.61] K. The main sources of uncertainty in the CO2effCS estimate comes from the uncertainty in aerosol forcing and in the top of the atmosphere energy imbalance. Further uncertainty arises from the pattern effect correction estimated from climate models. There is confidence in the lower end of the 5-95% range derived from our method as it relies only on reliable recent data and it makes full use of the observational record since 1971. This important result suggests that observations of the global energy budget since 1971 are poorly consistent with climate sensitivity to CO2 below 2.4 K. Unfortunately, the upper end of the 5-95% range derived from the regression method is above 30 K. It means that the observational constraint derived from observations of the global energy budget since 1971 is too weak (i.e. the uncertainty is too large) to provide any relevant information on the credibility of high CO2effCS.
