[Termes IGN] sécheresseRésumé : (auteur) Droughts may inflict significant damage to agricultural and water supplies, resulting in substantial financial losses as well as the death of people and livestock. This study intends to anticipate droughts by studying the changes of an acceptable index using appropriate climatic factors. This study was divided into three phases, first being the determination of the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration (SPEI) index for the Cholistan, Punjab, Pakistan area based on a dataset spanning 1980 to 2020. The indices are calculated at different monthly intervals which could to predict short-term periods for the Cholistan in Pakistan, we selected two distinctive time periods of one month (SPEI–1) and three months (SPEI–3). The second phase involved dividing the data into three sample sizes, which were used for training data from 1980 to 2010, testing data from 2011 to 2015 and validation data from 2016 to 2020. The utilization of the random forest (RF) algorithm to train and evaluate the data using a variety of climate variables e.g. potential evapotranspiration, rainfall, vapor pressure cloud cover, and mean, minimum and maximum, temperature. The final phase was to analyze the performance of the model based on statistical metrics and drought classes. Based on these considerations, statistical measures, such as the Coefficient of Determination (R2) and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) approach, were used to evaluate the performance of the test group throughout the testing period. The model's performance revealed the satisfactory results with R2 values of 0.80 and 0.78, for SPEI–1 and SPEI–3 situations, respectively. Following the data analysis, it was discovered that the validation period had a receiving operating curve and area under the Curve (ROC-AUC) of 0.87 for the SPEI–1 case and 0.85 for the SPEI–3 case. In this context, the results indicate that the SPEI may be useful as a prediction tool for drought prediction and the performances the RF model was suitable for both timescales. However, a more rigorous analysis with a larger dataset or a combination of datasets from different areas might be more beneficial for generalization over more extended time periods provide additional insights. [Termes IGN] qualité des eauxRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial pollution has a great impact on the coastal ecological environment, and widely distributed coastal outfalls act as the final gate through which pollutants flow into rivers and oceans. Thus, effectively monitoring the water quality of coastal outfalls is the key to protecting the ecological environment. Satellite remote sensing provides an attractive way to monitor sewage discharge. Selecting the coastal areas of Zhejiang Province, China, as an example, this study proposes an innovative method for automatically detecting suspected sewage discharge from coastal outfalls based on high spatial resolution satellite imageries from Sentinel-2. According to the accumulated in situ observations, we established a training dataset of water spectra covering various optical water types from satellite-retrieved remote sensing reflectance (Rrs). Based on the clustering results from unsupervised classification and different spectral indices, a random forest (RF) classification model was established for the optical water type classification and detection of suspected sewage. The final classification covers 14 optical water types, with type 12 and type 14 corresponding to the high eutrophication water type and suspected sewage water type, respectively. The classification result of model training datasets exhibited high accuracy with only one misclassified sample. This model was evaluated by historical sewage discharge events that were verified by on-site observations and demonstrated that it could successfully recognize sewage discharge from coastal outfalls. In addition, this model has been operationally applied to automatically detect suspected sewage discharge in the coastal area of Zhejiang Province, China, and shows broad application value for coastal pollution supervision, management, and source analysis. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (auteur) Since the 21st century, the rapid development of China’s mega-city clusters has posed a major threat to the healthy and coordinated development of cities. Therefore, it is necessary to be develop the comprehend the state of coupling coordination among mega-city cluster and EEQ under mesoscale. In this study, the largest Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is taken as the research object, NS-RSEI is constructed to evaluate the EEQ of the Yangtze River Delta, and the coupling coordination mechanism on the long-time series of the Yangtze River Delta in recent 20 years is explored by means of spatio-temporal analysis. The outcome verify that CCD of the Yangtze River Delta growth with a strong spatial dependence from 2001 to 2020, showing a spatial distribution pattern of " East West high-low". Above all, this study shows that urbanization is the main factor determining the development of CCD. In addition, compared with the traditional remote sensing eco-environment monitoring model, NS-RSEI proposed in this study shows better ability in mesoscale environmental monitoring, and provides great convenience for mesoscale EEQ evaluation. This study fills the research gap of the interactive coupling mechanism between urbanization and eco-environment quality of mesoscale mega-city group, and provides a new perspective on the sustainable development of megacity clusters. [Vedettes matières IGN] Végétation et changement climatiqueRésumé : (auteur) Forest dieback is a high risk factor for the sustainability of these ecosystems in the climate change context. Productivity losses and increased defoliation and mortality rates have already been recorded for many tree species worldwide. However, dieback is a process that depends on complex interactions between many biotic and environmental factors acting at different scales, and is thus difficult to address and predict. Our aim was to build tree- and stand-level foliar deficit models integrating biotic and abiotic factors for Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), a species particularly threatened in Europe, and especially in the southeastern part of France. To this end, we quantified foliar deficit in 1740 trees from 87 plots distributed along an environmental gradient. We also measured tree annual radial growth and the abundance of two parasites: the pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Den. & Schiff.) and mistletoe (Viscum album L.). Topographic, soil, climate and water balance indices were assessed for each plot, together with the stand dendrometric characteristics. Given the large number of environmental factors and the strong correlations between many of them, models were developed using a partial least squares (PLS) regression approach. All the models pointed to a preponderance of the biotic factors (processionary moth and mistletoe) in explaining the intensity of foliar deficit at both tree- and stand- levels. We also show that strong interactions between climate, soil, water balance and biotic factors help to explain the intensity of dieback. Dieback was thus greater in the driest topoedaphic and climatic conditions where the mistletoe and processionary moth were present. This study highlights the need to account for a wide range of biotic and abiotic factors to explain the complex process of forest dieback, and especially the environmental variables that contribute to the water balance on the local scale. The phenomenological modeling approach presented here can be used in other regions and for other species, after a re-calibration and some adaptations to local constraints considering the limited distribution area of some biotic agents. [Termes IGN] processus de hiérarchisation analytiqueRésumé : (auteur) A precise map of the dispersion of the groundwater potential across each watershed can help decision-makers to exert optimal water management in each region. In this research, the potential of groundwater resources in both the Zanjanrood Catchment and the Tarom Region, located in the northwest of Iran, has been studied. Seven effective criteria including slope, land-use, drainage density, spring density, lithology, lineament density, and rainfall are considered. Criteria were first weighted using the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) method and then overlaid by the Technique for Order Preferences by Similarity to Ideal (TOPSIS) model. Finally, the spatial zoning map of groundwater potential was obtained in four categories. A sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the influence of each criterion on the obtained map. The model was verified using both the spatial distribution of the high-discharged production wells and the geophysical-based geoelectric field surveys. The results indicate that the high-discharged wells (>40 l/s) in both regions are dispersed predominantly in the very good zone and, in several cases, in the good zone. Besides, the results from the two-dimensional models of resistivity and induced polarization of geoelectrical field survey are inappropriate agreement with those from the TOPSIS method. Notably, there is no suitable potential zone of groundwater in the surrounding highlands to be used in the future for drinking purposes since the highlands water supply is a strategic supply for drinking. The strategies employed in this study, the results of GIS modeling, and the geoelectrical analysis can be considered for sustainable development of similar arid and semi-arid areas since groundwater is considered as the main supplier of water in such regions.
