[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Les analyses de la visibilité offrent une opportunité pour faciliter l’exploration des paysages (par exemple l’évaluation des expériences touristiques). La localisation des observateurs dans un espace 3D et le caractère topographique de l’ensemble du paysage ont été identifiés comme des points clés pour la visibilité des structures spatiales (vues). Pourtant la façon dont les observateurs explorent un paysage n’est pas statique, mais séquentielle. Dans ce papier, nous concevons des visualisations géographiques exploratrices (des cartes de vues animées) qui visualisent de façon dynamique la partie d’un paysage de montagne qui est visible à partir de positions hypothétiques d’observateurs se déplaçant sur différentes entités topographiques (par exemple une ligne de crête). Dans ces géovisualisations, les changements d’altitude des observateurs sont également affichés dans un graphique de profil en encart. Dans l’ensemble, ces cartes animées facilitent l’exploration visuelle de l’évolution des vues simultanément avec le changement de position des observateurs. De cette façon, nous proposons un aperçu visuel direct de l’influence du déplacement de l’altitude des observateurs et des entités topographiques sur l’étendue et la configuration des vues. Cette approche qualitative est complétée par une évaluation statistique qui augmente la robustesse des résultats. Il s’avère que l’altitude en tant que telle n’est pas un déterminant crucial de la visibilité, et que les entités topographiques doivent être inclues pour une meilleure quantification et standardisation de la manière dont les paysages de montagne sont dynamiquement expérimentés. [Termes IGN] teneur en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) Since many years, the GNSS has been regarded by the meteorological community as one of the systems for atmospheric water vapour remote sensing. Time series of wet delays, estimated as by-products of accurate positioning, have been assimilated into numerical weather prediction models. However, a dedicated use the system for water vapour monitoring is still under investigation. Ad hoc dense networks have been designed and implemented to collect data at a high spatial resolution, baseline lengths lower than 10 km, with the aim of describing the high spatial and temporal variability of tropospheric water vapour. Within this framework, the paper reports a study on how the positioning strategy affects the estimated coordinates and tropospheric parameters. The study was conducted on the data collected by an experimental network of geodetic receivers, used as single or dual frequency ones. More specifically, investigations were made on the use of L1-only or iono-free combinations in differential positioning of receivers 100 to 10 km apart, finding that L1-only data provide more accurate results. Therefore, comparisons between local coordinates and ZWD obtained from relative and absolute positioning were performed to provide the statistics of the differences; the agreement between the results for short baselines is always better than 1 cm standard deviation. In order to assess the differences in the results that can be obtained from the two strategies when applied to the same observation set, a further comparison was carried out in terms of baseline components and ZWD increments. It results that, even for dense networks, the differential approach produces accurate results without losing information compared to the absolute one. [Vedettes matières IGN] SylvicultureRésumé : (auteur) The expansion of spruce-dominated forestry in Southern Sweden during the twentieth century has led to a considerable amount of oak (Quercus robur L.) woodlands being converted into stands dominated by planted spruce. The thinning of spruces around oak trees is currently done in Sweden to improve local diversity of insects, oak growing conditions and eventually decrease their mortality. To evaluate the effect of these treatments, we dendrochronologically studied growth of old (100–200 years old) oaks subjected to thinning of different intensity at nine locations in southern Sweden, and compared them to oaks located in nearby pastures. The overall pattern suggests that commonly adopted thinning intensities do not significantly affect oak growth. Oak growth was positively related to oak age and negatively to the amount of dead oak crown. Analyses of correlations between oak growth and summer drought conditions, as reflected by location-specific chronologies of the Monthly Drought Code (MDC), indicated that older trees exhibited generally negative correlations, whereas the correlation remained generally positive for the younger trees, both inside and outside forest stands. We propose that removal of spruces should be primarily done around older and healthier-looking trees. But their functionality strongly depends on the hydrology and topography of the watershed, thus creating the need for monitoring. The use of terrestrial topographical survey methods can be a challenging task in wetlands, however. Flooded areas, muddy terrain and low vegetation can substantially slow down or even prevent the movement of surveyors, while tall vegetation can obstruct GPS reception. As this article outlines, advanced technologies such as airborne or UAS Lidar offer interesting alternatives for surveying the hydrology and topography of wetlands.
