[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Some research in map generalization techniques using the agent paradigm have allowed to progress significantly toward automation. These models allow the computation of discrete transformations of the objects but are not adapted for continuous transformations such as deformations. Our challenge is to allow these models to manage such continuous transformations. As an application, we aim to introduce field data such as the relief in agent-based generalization models. Many relationships exist between fields and objects (especially buildings, roads and rivers). Our concern is to preserve these relationships. We propose to allow the geographic agents to deform a field during the generalization process. To attain this objective, we propose a model: 1- To measure and interpret relationships between fields and objects (this allows to define new constraints), 2- To compute fields deformations under objects stretching, 3- To manage the automatic trigger of these measurements and deformations in the existing agent based generalization models. We propose to model the field as a triangulation, and to explicit some shape preservation constraints on the points, segments, angles and triangles composing the field. When a point is stretched, its displacement propagates to its neighbors using a multi-agent convergence method we have built. A major challenge in range acquisition for 3D reconstruction is an efficient automated view planning algorithm to determine a sequence of scanning locations or views such that a set of acquisition constraints and requirements is satisfied and the object or environment of interest can be satisfactorily reconstructed. Due to the intractability of the view planning problem and the lack of global geometric information, a greedy approach is adopted to approximate the solution. A practical view metric is formulated to include many real-world acquisition constraints and reconstruction quality requirements. This view metric is flexible to allow trade-offs between different requirements of the reconstruction quality. A major contribution of this work is the application of a hierarchical approach to greatly accelerate the evaluation of the view metric for a large set of views. This is achieved by exploiting the various spatial coherences in the acquisition constraints and reconstruction quality requirements when evaluating the view metric. The hierarchical view evaluation algorithm is implemented in a view planning system targeted for the acquisition of indoor environments using a monostatic range scanner with 3D pose. The results show great speedups over the straightforward method used in many previous algorithms. The view planning system has also been shown to be robust for realworld application. The dissertation also describes how the view metric can be generalized to incorporate general acquisition constraints and requirements, and how the hierarchical view evaluation algorithm can be generalized to scanners with general pose, and to scanners with bistatic sensors. A simple extension is also proposed to enable the hierarchical view evaluation algorithm to take into account each view’s sensitivity to the potential pose errors in the physical positioning of the scanner. A computed new view must produce a range image that can be accurately registered to the previous scans. In this work, a metric is developed to estimate the registration accuracy of the views. This metric considers the amount of overlap, the range measurement errors, and the shape complexity of the surfaces. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Displacement, an operation of cartographic generalization, resolves congestion and overlap of map features that is caused by enlargement of map symbols to ensure readability at reduced scales. Algorithms for displacement must honour spatial context, avoid creating secondary spatial conflicts, and retain spatial patterns and relations such as alignments and relative distances that characterize the original map features. We present an algorithm for displacement of buildings based on optimization. While existing approaches directly displace the individual buildings, our algorithm first forms a truss of elastic beams to capture important spatial patterns and preserve them during displacement. The algorithm proceeds in two phases. The first phase analyses spatial relationships to construct a truss as a weighted graph. The truss is initially based on the minimum spanning tree connecting the building centroids, with beam stiffness determined by spatial relationships. The second phase iteratively deforms the truss to minimize energy until a user-defined distance is achieved. At each iteration, it computes forces on the truss, calculates truss deformations, and adjusts all build positions simultaneously. A prototype has been implemented to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach. The results are cartographically pleasing ; in particular, spatial relationships between buildings are preserved.
