[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) The work described in this paper deals with denoising of fine detail in terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data for close-range applications. In contrast to other denoising methods described in the literature, the method described here puts the problem back into two dimensions. In the proposed method, data from each instrument station is processed by denoising the range image as a 2D function. Then, after denoising, the registration process is applied to obtain the final 3D point cloud. Two image denoising methods are tested. Wavelet analysis and a “non-local means” (NL-means) algorithm are applied to archaeological objects of sizes described as medium (around one cubic metre) and small (around one cubic decimetre). The rich relief of these objects proves the efficiency of the method on all kinds of surface shape. The experience shows that the NL-means method achieves good results: the standard deviation of 2 mm in the raw data is decreased to 1 mm. Besides, NL-means denoising requires very few parameters to be set (generally two) whilst wavelet denoising requires many. Hence, the extreme simplicity of the NL-means method makes it much more efficient and suitable for use by non-specialists. The method, which slightly modifies the standard production process and inherits the algorithmic complexity of the classical 2D image processing schemes, allows the range of applications of TLS to be extended to small and finely detailed objects. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) New imaging capabilities have given rise to higher dimensional image processing. This paper presents a generalization of total variation (tv) based denoising model with a specific application to three-dimensional flash lidar imagery. The generalization uses a weighted norm, rather than the standard Euclidean measure, that accounts for sampling differences that may exist along different axes. We compare this new method against successive two-dimensional denoising and three-dimensional TV denoising. The results show that denoising with a weighted norm presents much better object recognition for multi-plane objects compared with both of the other methods. Further, it does not blur single plane objects beyond the result obtained with two-dimensional denoising. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Reference spectra of terrestrial targets are usually collected using field spectro-radiometers for mineral abundance mapping and target detection. These spectra often have noise that masks characteristic absorption and reflection features and affects the efficiency of material mapping. This work aims at obtaining an empirical technique for reduction of high-frequency noise from field spectra. The proposed noise correction technique uses a 'normalized' measure Rn, where Rn = (Ln - Fn)/Ln for each band (n) calculated from field and laboratory spectra of test material, with Fn and Ln being the depth of the absorption feature in field and laboratory spectra, respectively. On the basis of the assumption of the constancy of this ratio in neighbouring bands, an empirical algorithm that approximates the ratio Rn of a noisy band to the corrected ratio of an adjacent band is used to obtain the noise-corrected field spectra. The classification accuracy increases significantly when noise reduced field spectra are used as reference spectra.
